Default THE LS1 STARTS!!!!

I finally figured out the electrical mysteries of my wiring harness and started up the engine!!! only ran it for a second because there is no belt, no cooling system, and no exhaust, but this is the most exciting part of the conversion so far!!!

Hey man, sounds like it's coming along. When are you coming back to Dallas?

I'm interested in seeing what you do for the air intake. It looks like it will be a tight fit once you get the rad in place. I'll be keeping an eye on the site.
Congrats on starting it.

Some part of Texas if not Dallas at some point I'm pretty sure. Colorado has a lack of air conditioning yet it still gets just as hot, i just dont understand. 5000 ft of elevation doesnt help my HP numbers either!! Zip needs to hurry up and deliver my radiator shroud foam so I can get on the road. That's the last part I need before I can at least drive around town which I haven't done since the end of january!

Welcome to the club. Glad to hear it is running for you. I think we need some pics and sound clips of that thing with no exhaust.

70LS1,
I was just looking at your site and I see that the pics for the air intake don't show up on the "mounts" page.

BTW, I'm not sure exactly where your VATS simulator hooks up, but I think you may have told a bunch of people how to build a simulator so they can steal an LS1 equipped vehicle. I could be wrong, just throwing that out there.

The setup looks really nice on your vette, and I like the idea of the larger C5 brake conversion

I was thinking just that when i was soldering up the circuit! :D Good luck ripping apart the dash to the proper wire and connecting the little module though. That's not going to happen fast enough to make a quick getaway.

Bob, so you are an ET, or EE?? that certainly helps make that conversion much easier....so you are using the stock computer setup?? what about the O2 sensors?? and the like, the rest of that EPA crap and the interfaces with all those other computers...like 'body controll'...etc....much less VSS, and the like...

I'm a CS, but dabble in the actual circuits from time to time. I removed the EGR, because I most likely will go with an LS6 intake at some point that has no EGR provisions, and I'm sure I can convince the emission testing people that the engine model I got didn't have EGR. The A/C compressor needs to go there anyways. I'm going to be running an AIR pump and cats when I get the initial bugs worked out, gotta be environmentally friendly :blueangel:

It is a stock computer and wiring harness. There really arent that many things that need to be changed/connected (Thanks Jeff!) to get the stock harness to work which makes it hard to justify 200+ for a professional to modify, or 750+ for a custom harness just to have more freedom to put the ECU where I'd like to. There are bungs in the manifolds for o2 sensors, and there need to be another pair of o2 sensors after the cats. It's a fairly complex setup, but it will be clean, fast, efficient, and oh so shiney when I'm done.

Bob, cool that the stock computer can run things like that without all the extras and not set codes like mad....

so you have a basically stock setup....what I"m curious about is if there is any way to run it with out all the extra O2 sensors, cats, and associated BS....
like that EGR you allready did away with....take off the air pumps, etc.....
completely de-smog the thing, in the old term parlance...

Yes you can get O2 simulators and ditch the rear O2 sensors as well as ditch the cats. You can get rid of the air pump too.

Yep. Casper Electronics makes them. I even saw them in one of the mail order catalogs (either summit or jegs).

Hey that's really cool. It's good to hear of your success. I think I may have an LS1 in my future, as well. It's such a great engine. Good job, dude. Have you updated your web site with any new pictures lately?

Gene yes, I believe you can. The ls1edit program can modify just about any part of the ecu's program. You can even remove the need for a VATS signal if you wish. My car will be throwing codes about the EGR for sure, but I'm going to fix that with this software.

patsnitrovette I bet ls1edit can take care of the o2 sensors as well.

Burners It was updated on the 18th. Its not noticably different looking. Just a few more wires dangled everywhere to hook up the power properly to the ECU and other components. I'll take some more pics when I get the radiator back in.
