Just got my AC converted...
....since you can't do without it when you own a black car and it's summertime. :mad The original AC compressor was locked up and since I was having it replaced, I decided to have it converted from the old R12 freon to the new 134A. So far I'm very pleased with the results. :) It feels great to literally be 1cool80 again.

No, I had someone else replalace the compressor. The cost was around $300 not counting the compressor which was around $120. Expensive to some, cheap to others. I hope this helps. :)

Guess I am sorta confused. I thought R-12 was the current standard.

Re: Just got my AC converted... (1Cool80)
I'm almost as cool as my 80. I got A/C today also, first time in a couple of years. The system had been evacuated some time back, so I bought the conversion kit, new drier and orifice tube, installed it all and then took it to the shop to have them evacuate the system and charge with the 134a. I would rather have done the charge myself since I had the freon (134a) but I could not evacuate the system. They found that my compressor clutch would not engage. The compressor is chromed so I didn't want to lose it, they fixed it for $39 plus 38 to evacuate and 50 for the freon, my 34 for the drier, 3 for the tube and 27 for the conversion kit.... not to bad I don't think. and it feels great. :hurray:
