Default Questions on '73 454

Well, I currently own a 1986 C4....but this all original (engine/tranny/diff) car came up and I am thinking about selling the c4 and buying it.
The questions are:

What are the performance numbers on a stock 73 454 th400 car?
(curious to know whether I will get faster or slower compared to 86)

Anything I should know about auto 73 454's....or ask about?

Thanks!
(I really can't wait to go to a carbed setup with a BB!!!!!!!!) :D

Just don't expect the 73 to preform like the 69 and 70 big blocks. I really hate to say this but by 73 they were almost a truck engine :(

But... the 73 LS4 had 5 more HP then the 72 LS5. The 73/74 were the last of the big block Vettes.

Car & Driver, Dec 72: 14.7@97.2 quarter, 6.4 0-60
Motor Trend, Jan 73: 14.1@93 quarter, 6.8 0-60

For more on the 73 check out The '73 Spot, below.

George?
Eh....???

Anyway, thanks for the links I was using CorvetteActioncenter.com and they didn't really have what I was looking for.
That site is really nice!

Thanks for all the info guys!

Hmm....sort of sucks I am losing a second in acceleration but I am sure with the hooker sidepipes it has...and maybe a intake swap I might be able to "breathe" a little more life into it. . .

Not to worry at all. A mildly modified LS4 or LS5 can really fly and you can't match the torque with a 350. :nono:

Don't forget...the original '73 tests would have been done on old technology tires, so not really a true comparison to your '86. Especially with some minor mods and tuning....it'll run hard!!

You asked about George....former member of the forum known as "73-454", from the Toronto area, who lives on in "infamy". Actually...a pretty good guy (in person), but picked stupid fights with everyone here! He's around somewhere....no doubt causing trouble!! In fact, I bet he's reading this!!

Ok,, so I have a midnight blue BONE stock 72 454 in the garage. It is driven monthly until the fact. over heat 230 degree issues is resolved. Yes the right bank smokes and it uses 20w50 oil until the rebuild. Fact Air needs new compressor clutch. Tires are old radials so I guess bone stock doesn't include rubber. Temp elec fans on rad to help cooling until we get to the bottom of heat. Will remove hood and drive to see if air flow solves the issue. I think it will . Still daily driving 99 Nassau blue.. :auto:
