Good Muffler?
I am looking at mufflers for my sidepipes and dont want to throw out 300 for jcl baffles. So I have been looking around and doing some research and I ran acrossed these Moroso mufflers. They seem like a pretty good deal. I was just wondering if anyone has used these and if they flow good and do they sound good?

The design is very, very similar to the JCL's. But I don't know if they are really much cheaper. The Moroso ones are only 12" long. If you were to use only one on each side ($100) with the largest inlet size which is still smaller than the JCL's, it will be much louder than the JCL's. At 12" long, three Moroso spiral mufflers end to end will be needed to approach equality with the JCL's. This would be $150 per side, the same as the JCL's. The JCL's are lighter without the shell and I believe would also flow better because of this.
I might agree that the materials used in the JCL's don't appear to add up to much cost to justify the price. BUT, as one who has spent more than a little time and $$ fabricating my own muffler designs, the JCL's at $300 worked! JCL spent a lot of time getting the number and spacing of the flutes correct.
A tuned open exhaust system normally gives the most power. To drive on the street, mufflers take much of the gain away. In the case of my L88 this was about 100 horse power. $300 seemed pretty cheap to me to get it ALL back. The almost $900 for my new roller cam wouldn't even do that.

Having listened to Chuck's car in person with the JCLs, I must say.
If he says it's MUCH louder than the JCLs, a single magnaflow will get you in trouble with la gendarme, I have NO doubt.
I would recommend the JCLs, they're very attractive mufflers, sound great, and very light weight. I can carry the header and baffle no problem!

JCL doesn't have a 3 inch setup though, and that's what I'm going to use.
