No and yes, the stingray badge disappeared after the 76 model year. But as you may notice 76 and 77 are almost identical. I prefer to think of 68-82 as sharks and 63-67 as stingrays.
My father in law has a 77, never noticed the power steering cap.

volt1718....
Congratulations on the '77 vette! And it's not just your '77 that the power steering cap will not come out because of the alternator bracket. My '74 has the same problem. Some take the bracket off and notch it with a grinder so they do not have to go through the pains again when checking the fluid.
Anyone else have this problem?

STINGRAY
Some Corvette history is helpful to ID a Stingray.
In 63, the new smaller body & chassis w/ I.R.S. was called a Sting Ray. When the body was redone in 68 at first called Sting Ray & then used Stingray emblems in 69. Emblems are for identification & some can not identify w/o the emblem. Seems some place far more importance on emblems than the factory ever did. The factory wanted to change the new car so that it could be identified as new at the time. Stingray is not an option or emblem, some are unmarked.
Chassis essentially same from 63-77, body essentially same 68-77 & interior essentially same from 68-77.
There can be no question that 68-77 are Stingrays.

PS needs longer belt.
To check: Change PS belt to same length as a reference Gates 7365.

Re: just bought a 77 vette need to know a few things (volt1718)
First of all, Welcome :seeya
When I got my '77, I could pull the PS cap out, no problem.
Later, when I changed belts (purchased from a local auto parts store), I had the interference between the PS cap & the alternator. The belt was indeed shorter & the PS pump sat a a different angle.
I can still coerce the cap out of there, but I'll have to try Ganey's longer belt number some day.

Congratulations. On the power steering cap issue don't worry too much about it. Wait 'til you have to do something difficult like change a fuse! Welcome to the wonderful world of Vette ownership. Each job takes at least 2 beers longer than you thought it would take.

My '77 has the same power steering cap problem too. I will use a different belt next time I need one. Have fun with the '77.

Thanks for the longer belt idea. I have this problem on our 89 Blazer 350.
I'm gonna check it out.

Yes, have posted this ever since on this forum & normally say allows checking. At least for those who don't tighten the cap it should not fall out.

Yet another thread on the mystery of the power steering cap. (WTF was GM thinking?) We've all run into this at one time or another. A longer (tighter) adjustment will give you more room to get at the cap ... and vice versa a shorter (looser) adjustment takes away your room.
gotta love these sharks
