I'm going to see if they have any in the store, we have one in Fort Myers. I think I'll get a few of those hose clamp off thingies too :yesnod:

:lolg: Haha, I though you wrote "put one in each EAR!" :lolg:  :lolg:

But yeah, I bought one of those also from Freight Harbor for a few bucks. Don't really know how to use it but I've got it.

Be careful if you use this meter anywhere but on your car. One of my working buddies had the lead blown out of his hand trying to check 480VAC. It says it is good for up to 600VAC. NOT!!! I am just glad I was not working with him that night. It was scary enough just hearing him tell the story. If he would have been working with me we would have used a KEITHLEY DVOM. The meter should work fine on our cars though.

Went to Harbor Freight for the first time about a month ago after hearing people on the forum talking about it. All I can say about the place was it's fantasic.

It was just a warning not to those who are not familiar. The meter does say right on the description:

Get accurate readings for DC voltage, DC current, AC voltage, resistance, transistor test, diode test, and continuity response. Features easy-to-read 3-1/2 digit LCD readout, positive set selector switch, and 32" leads. Low battery indication.Fuse and diode protected circuit.
DC-A: 0-200µA-2000µA-20mA-200mA
Resistance: 0-200-2000-20K-200K-2000K ohm
DC-V: 0-200mV-2000mV-20V-200V-1000V
AC-V: 0-200-750V

I picked one up, but need to bring in the interenet advertisement to get a refund for the diff of 9.99-2.99. I paid regular price for it (still cheap) because that happens a lot in the store, the interenet prices aren't reflected. The cashier said they honor them , but need a copy for proof for corporate. I'm not going to complain. Three weeks ago I bought a timing light that was advertised for $39.99 on the net, marked $29.99 at the store and rang up $19.99 at the register. :D I told the clerk, he didn't know why and assumed they were on sale because the item number was correct on the tag. :D

Dang, I missed this item in the catalog! I just phoned in a sizable order the other day. The catalog is great, with free shipping on orders over $50. I hope the quality of their stuff is acceptable.

Great price, but I've already got one meter and a dwell meter hooked up
on my car (the volt meter is for the O2 sensor...)

Thanks for the heads up - I usually delete the HF ad's these days...

Harbor Freight is fantastic!!! I bought a 6000lb rolling winch for $49. I missed the sale on the wheel dollies (4 dollies for $80, letting you roll the car around in the garage, which is important for me, since I always seem to have more cars than space (see sig for an example.)

After the dollies, my next purchase will be their larger air compressor (to run air tools) for $164 on sale!

i bought an early digital meter from radioshack(1980's?) it was 59.95 on sale for 39.95 (so even 9.99 is good.)
this one does the same stuff for 2.99
the sale is from catalog 740, not 'net ads.

Matt, now that I think about it, you're right, that mutlimeter was in last Sunday's newpaper ad too. But they must do the catalog sales on email too. That where I found out about the hose clamp thingies. That's what I was referring to as a "net ad" :D
I get email from them a couple times a week with price specials.

things to do with your new meter:
write down:
1. charging voltage
2. resistance of each plug wire
3. voltage at battery after cranking for 10 seconds
you will be quizzed next week on why you are doing this :D

Matt,
is the setting on these things for continuity at about 5:00 on the dial? The one with the little arrow pointing to a "+" sign?
I haven't had any electrical training since my quantitative physical science class in 9th grade. :jester

I sometimes wonder about HF I bought a floor jack from them and have not been impressed. To release the jack it's either an all or nothing.. You can't let the car down with ease unless you very slow I'm talking mm here turn the handle if you go to far the valve just opens completely and the jack comes down at full speed.. I'll get off my soap box now.. As for continuity.. If I understand correctly an arrow pointing at a plus sign sounds more like the diode setting which when you make continuity should beep. Ohms is a better way of determining continuity.. which the sign for is basically a horseshoe on it tips.. or a upside down U.. Dave..
