Default Just back from NCRS National Conference - 360 degree picture (.mov) link

Um - National Convention I meant.

Well, the family and I (and a son's friend) hopped in the rented Volvo wagon
and headed for Hershey PA on Saturday. We enjoyed that evening and the next day in
the amusement park. The following day, we all went to wander around and
check out all the vettes at the convention.

First, let me say "WOW" to the NCRS for organizing such a great convention.
I recently joined and signed up to attend Hershey. Unfortunately, I was too
late to secure a room in the beautiful Hershey Lodge - so we were 'spilled
over' to the Best Western across the street. It was definitely NOT the 'best'.
Next time, I'll sign up early (Look out Ontario - next year).

We saw a few familiar vettes. Paul's orange 74 was in the parking garage
area, a stone's throw from the 1953 #003 (oldest vette). Outside, many more
vettes were staged for judging. A couple vettes were local (to me) owners.
Great people owning great cars. I'll post these pics later. For now, I want to
show the vettes that were inside the convention hall. Walking into this
secured room (needed badges) was like dying and going to heaven. So many
original vettes - that shined like the day they were born. It was a sight that
was truly inspiring and I'm getting goose-bumps thinking about it.

I took a 9-shot panorama. Unfortunately, one of the pictures was corrupted
before I could stitch them all together, so the 360 'picture' linked below
is made from 8 of 9 shots. Thus, there is a little 'seam' that doesn't quite
meet correctly.

You will need the Quicktime viewer installed to view it. You can download it
free from Apple Computer here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

If you already have Quicktime installed, then view the VR 360 degree picture (.mov) here:

I'll be posting still images, as soon as I get a chance to clean them up and resize.

Pretty cool even if you had one bad picture  Now, how the heck did you make it? I'm using a G4 1G DP so just let me know what software to get and how it's done.

The '360 degree panorama' feature is included with the Olympus software
that came with my camera. Additionally - to use this feature, the camera must
be outfitted with 'original Olympus' smart media card. It puts some extra info in the JPG file for manipulating it.

There might be other (aftermarket) software that will do this 360 degree stitching, but it would likely be marketed through Apple Computer (Quicktime).

The format is called Quicktime VR (virtual reality).

Um - the apps they show in Apple.com are not cheap. $200 + OUCH.
Maybe there is some share-ware out there.

Yeah - I wish I had more 'free' time to mingle with the vette-heads.
I did meet Guy - who lives 2 towns over from me !
The trouble is that I don't know what most of us look like.
I recognize the cars - but unless they are judging, the owners are usually not around.

We went for family vacation - with the benefit of the convention.
It was loads of fun on both fronts. Now my boys will have to fight for who goes
to Windsor next year in the vette. :boxing

BTW, Paul - your's was the only 74 that I noticed. Not many 73s, either.

Hey Dave,
That must have been a fun trip. I tried looking at the video here at work, but my Quicktime my be messed up. I'll do it tonight.

If it weren't for the rain the last 2 Fridays, I was gonna drive the Vette to work, then drop by if you were going to be home.

While in PA, did you sample any Yeungling Lagers? Those are my favorites. I just got a case from my brother in law who was in Hershey last week, but not for the Convention.
