Hey, Do you mean the slde thing that moves when you apply the "E"-brake, or the console piece that the slide slides in ? If I remember correctly ,,,,to remove the console piece you unscrew a couple of screws on either side of it and then you can get out the slide thing out of the track it rides in.

If yours is like my 77 then you can remove the side panels on the console and that will expose the screws underneath.

Cool. How many screws in all?
For reference, I'm not talking about hardware, talking about the rubber cover, armrest if you will. (Though at my height, I think I'm developing a permanent muscle condition trying to use it as such...)

After typing everything in the following paragraph - I realize this is for 68-76 only.
You guys get the new and improved (in price, anyway) brake console.
There are the obvious screws on the sides, but there is a reinforcement
bracket that is inside the back and bolts through the vertical body panel that
goes behind the seats. There is one nut on the outside (bottom) of the body
that releases this - or (I think) 4 nuts inside the 'armrest'.
Steve - get one of the pads that goes over this piece - it raises it about 3 inches and is a foam pad for comfort.
