Rams Horn Exhaust Manifolds
I need to replace one of the original ramshorn exhaust manifolds on my '79 as it's cracked and refuses to weld :mad
... are these manifolds left and right handed? .... or exactly the same both sides?

Re: Rams Horn Exhaust Manifolds (Skeets)
I've had mine off recently, and they both look exactly the same. I can't believe that they won't weld. Cast iron is usually extremely easy to weld. Try another welding shop. They are probably using the wrong rod.

I think they are different, doesn't the passenger side have a hole for the heat riser? I could be wrong though.

Re: Rams Horn Exhaust Manifolds (77Dream)
They are indeed different, with separate casting numbers for left and right. Often you see these in the parts for sale section.

I must have been lucky, didn't pay any attention to left or right....replaced both of mine and only had to change the studs, which I was gonna do anyway as the old ones were shot. the passenger side studs were longer to allow for the whatchacallit flapper between the exhaust manifold and the pipe

Re: Rams Horn Exhaust Manifolds (zymurgist)
Skeets, in view of zymurgist's comments...you may want to check the part number and see if same/different for your year. I know my year (1968) they list different numbers for left and right. Maybe some years the parts do in fact interchange.

Go to Brzezinski Racing Products as they carry the originals or CNC modified versions: http://www.castheads.com/exhaust_fol...haust_set.html

Re: Rams Horn Exhaust Manifolds (Skeets)
Ecklers lists them as the same part number - right or left. The heat riser is bolted on to the bottom of the manifold - it is not an integral piece. The Passenger manifold will have to use longer studs because of the heat riser. Cast Iron is one of the easiest metals to weld - where is you're broken? Any pics?

Re: Rams Horn Exhaust Manifolds (WPEDirect)
It has a crack in it.. and i've had 3 guys have a go at welding it but the cast iron just keeps crumbling . These guys know what they're doing too, so i'm happy to take their word that this particular manifold is a bit of a bi*ch.
I've had the thing off twice now.. and it's the passenger side one where the A/C bracket has to come off too (Yawn!) ... so i'm loathed to have another go at welding cos it means pulling it all off again :cry

From late 1972 to 1980 the #3932461 exhaust manifold was used on the Corvette SB on both sides. Here are examples from my basement inventory.
*Edit*-I am going to have to eat crow on this one. The manifolds have the same part number but there is a difference. One side has the two centre threaded holes for the AIR injection tubes, the other does not. The holes are not drilled :bb .
