Anything chrome plated suffers from hydorgen embrittlement and is prone to cracking. Ceramic coatings with heat retention is the only choice of the two.

Depends....
With all the chrome on my '68 the "Coated" headers would look REALLY dull. Even the new sterling finish is too dull to my liking. In the end I went with chome. I rather have them re-chomed in 8-10yrs than have the "coated" look, but that's me. You really can't go wrong with all three, even the black looks good.

I'm unsure about Hooker's Ceramic-metallic coating. Here's a pic of their coated Super Comp's I bought used. Most of the coating around the collector now looks like primer paint and started peeping! I'm going with Jet-hot Hooker side mounts, they're cheaper than the chrome and this is a budget rebuild afterall!

Ya budget rebuild.
I had heard the hooker coating was not that great but to me those look like they where shot with high temp paint like the Edelbrocks in my Formula, the coating looks thin compared the dynomax coating on my vette.

I get a lot of good compliments concerning my Jet-Hot Hookers and the sound is great with the STS baffles.

Performance Coatings is owned by Chuck Simpson who is a died in the wool gear head, national record holding drag racer and car builder. His work is fantastic and he is great to work with. A real shameless plug, Chuck was one of the developers of aluminum/ceramic coatings when he was with a well known national company and made further improvements when he was with Airborne Coatings. He now owns his own shop and his work will stack up with anyones. The newest coatings look like highly polished aluminum and its harder than Superman's kneecap.
