Suspension air bags in a C3?
I know this may sound odd, but do you think that the front coils in a C3 could be replaced with air bags ?
I don't want to get lowrider low, but I like the lowered car look. Problem is that sometimes I need to clear a driveway curb, a speed bump, bad roads - stuff like that. I would like to be able to raise the car 1 - 1 1/2 inches from the current height for daily driving and bring it back down for car shows, cruises and interstate runs.
I have no experience with air bags, but I know the ricer / lowrider crowd uses them. Any ideas or input ?
P.S. I already thought about the adjustable mono suspension, but that requires tools and getting under the car and a jack, not exactly easily changeable.

I think a small compressor could be fit into the drivers side fender area, in the jack storage area, under the nose or back where I don't have a spare tire or mufflers anymore.

Compressors are EZ - very small nowadays. Also, they make an airbag that replaces your shock - bolts into the same mounts. It's called the shockwave, and acts as a shock and spring in one unit. I have a buddy that owns a custom shop here in Texas - check out his site... very cool stuff and lots of pics!

OK, so he's gotta make a buck. They're $800/pr from the dealer.
Airbag suspension setups are just like engine work, or body work. If you want it done right, it's not gonna be cheap. :smash:

So what's the deal with airbags? I only see them on custom hot rods and Tracktor trailer big rigs.
What is the benefit on a car? Better ride? better handling? adjustable ride height?
If they are good for a street rod, then why don't any new cars have them?
I've often wodered these things, but was affraid t ask!

Many new cars are using them, also making them even cooler by adding user specified settings, the wife gets in the seat moves forward and the truck "in this case" drops, just with the turn of the key. I have always wondered this too. I assume they are crap for handling, but perhaps a mono spring and undersized airbags. so you pump them up to lift of the standard suspension. then go over the speed bump, then release, and your back on your standard suspension. and only the shock inside will remain effective.
