Thanks I believe that's the second or third time you have helped me out.
I am trying to match a March pulley, this is from there website
MARCH #....... MFG OEM #........Shaft Size.........KEYWAY.......O D Size
515..............140231761.............. .3/4"...................YES................ .6"
As you can see there is a 1 at the end and the overall diameter is slightly bigger, do yu think it is the correct one ?

PETE79L82,
The part number that I have for the 1975-82 pulley is different by the last number. I have 14023175. Your number was 14023176. The interesting thing is that both numbers come up on the http://www.GMPartsDirect.com websight as pulleys. I can't seem to be able to find the source of my GM part number. Somebody should call a GM dealership parts department to find out which number is correct.
MOTORHEAD
The 1975 through 1982 power steering pump has a 3/4 inch diameter drive shaft. However, it does NOT have a keyway. The pulley that is designed to work with this pump has a hub that is an interference fit to the pump driveshaft. There is a female 3/8-16 UNC thread in the end of the driveshaft. You must use a special tool that threads into that thread to draw the pulley onto the shaft.
DO NOT press directly against the driveshaft to press the pulley onto the shaft. You will break parts inside the pump.
The older pumps (before 1975) had a 5/8 inch diameter driveshaft with a keyway. There was a male 9/16-18 UNF thread on the end of the driveshaft.

be very careful if you select a larger diameter pulley. There is not a lot of room between the pulley and the frame.
The previous owner of my car, Bubba, had a pulley 2 inches in diameter bigger with an extra groove on it. There was so little room between the frame and the pulley that I had to get the slot of a cog-tooth belt on the lip of the pulley, then use all my might to turn the pulley to wedge the belt past it. What a nightmare! Needless to say the old pulley is a reminder on a shelf in my garage that I need to question everything on the car.
