Re: Approx weight of my C3 SB Vert? (KJL)
What year? My 71 has power nothing and with my ZZ4 I estimate it weighs around 3200lbs. I think the early sharks with a small block tipped the scales between 3200 and 3400 lbs depending on options. I know the later sharks were heavier. I am just guessing and from what my AIM says but I may be wrong, please correct me anyone.

It is a 72. It has a Turbo 400 which I know weighs a bit more than the Turbo 350. I would think a convertable would weigh a bit less than a hard top.

A 72 coupe was 3,305 lbs with no options. Not sure about 72 but in 73 the conv was 7 lbs heavier then the coupe.

I just looked it up and the shipping weight of a 1971 convertible was 3202.
The web site that I got the information off of is here: http://www.idavette.net/facts/72.htm
This page states the 1972 curb weight of 3305 lbs. I don't know why a 72 would be that much different than a 71 because they are virtually the same car.

Late year C3's were lighter than the early C3's "mainly 80-82". It's good to know our vetts are around the same weight as mtsu Eclipes for that matter.

Ok, now I need to find a scale to drive on. Perhaps I can find a gravel company local that has one.

I'm surprised nobody has broken out with "Corvette Black Book" statististics. It's my understanding that early C3s were lighter than later ones and that convertibles weigh more than coupes  In a convertible it's far better if you add weight to stiffen the now "flexible" chassis since you have no fixed roof to perform this job. The C5 was designed as a convertible off the bat which is the way to go if you're designing a car. That way everyone gets the basic chassis and it's already stiffened; coupes only get better by adding a fixed roof.
Here are the Black Book stats by year (all coupes measured in curb weight- "The weight of an automobile with standard equipment and fuel, oil and coolant.) Basically, find out what the weight is of all your options / modifications, add your weight and you've got a very close proximation to your car's weight.
1968- 3210
1969- 3245
1970- 3285
1971- 3202

Since i have a stock 78 fatty , what are the best and cheapest ways at making it lose some weight? How much do you lose by going with alu heads?

Losing weight in a car is a pro/con evaluation. You can do as little as lighter wheels and aluminum heads. Or you can ditch the carpeting, radio, sound insulation, dash, install lighter seats, etc. But in doing all of that, can you live without creature comforts? Our cars are already made of fiberglass, so replacing body panels with fiberglass isn't an option. You can replace glass with lexan or plexiglass if it's legal for the street. You can save a lot of weight by using lexan, especially since '78 and later have that bubble window.
Your question about aluminum heads I can't answer directly, but thanks to Car Craft Magazine I see some aftermarket small blocks (only the block) that range from 185 pounds to 200. By contrast that big block aluminum ZL1 Chevrolet is producing is only 110 pounds.
