Vettemeeting choose a 68 !
Hello
I attended a Vette only meeting in Valkenburg , Netherlands today.
Over 200 Vettes, from 54 till 2003 found their way over there.
They got parked in the Casino garden, as the pic shows that was taken from the Casinos roof.
The only Vette exhibited on a turntable was a , yes a 68. :yesnod:
It was advertised as " The great shark ". .
A 68 ? With all it's so called manufacturing flaws, difficult to find 68 only parts etc. !
Well, for me, they took the right choice . Unfortunately , it wasn't my 68.
It was a great day, lots of custom Vettes and plenty of originals.

is it me or does it look like there's hardly anyone there??
I totally missed it, had other things to do and frankly, looking at the pics (I saw on a dutch vette site) I'm glad I didn't. Driving all those miles to arrive there and then the place is deserted.

I would love to go to a Vette show in Europe. Does anyone know of a site with schedules of such events? My wife and I are planning a trip to europe next year and that would be a very worthwhile stop.

The chrom&flammen mag lists all the dates and events. Want me to scan the events page? (I'm not gonna type it all up hehehe)
What countries would be of interest?

I think I'll try to hit just one though. I see Corvettes here enough, but it would be neat to see what it's like to own one over there. I go to Ireland 4 times a year for work, and couldn't imagine driving my Vette there, both the roads and fuel costs would kill me.
Even though the attendance was low, I'll bet the show was still fun nonetheless.

I'm not aware of any activities in Ireland. The UK has a good scene, there are other UK members here that will have more info on that.
Here's some of the larger events:
(remember, dates are dd/mm/yyyy)
19-20/07/2003
Corvette Euro meet
Hockenheimring
Germany
27/07/2003
American Sunday Groningen
The Netherlands
03/08/2003
Corvette meeting
Bilzen Belgium
16-17/08/2003
American Power on Wheels (APOW) Antwerp Belgium
19-21/09/2003
All american Weekend
Lommel Belgium
28/09/2003
American Sunday Cruise
Groningen The Netherlands
There are lots and lots more events (will scan tomorrow), most of them are general us car & bike events. The Dutch heartbeat 40 Corvette club has a list of meetings on their site:
http://www.heartbeatcorvette.nl , in english too i think.
The germans have more vette clubs, there are members here like 454 big and sir tripower that will know what is going on over there.

Your right, when the pic was taken, it was still early morning, about 10.00 O'clock AM. Most people where still in town having their breakfast.
During the afternoon, it filled up and the place was full with cars and people.
I was looking for you to see that marvelous turbo setup, but :smash:
no Twin Turbo.
They had over 200 Vettes and that's a lot for a European one type car gathering.
From 1954 on, every year was present, including a 63 split window.
Also numerous Daytona kit cars showed up, very impressive.
No, I don't think the silver 68 on stage was a real L88 , at least it didn't sound like one when the girl drove it up the ramp. Also the tach was not a 6.500 RPM red line tach.
I would say, it's probably the club's presidents wife or so car.
I found Valkenburg a nicer meeting than Idstein in Germany.

Re: Vettemeeting choose a 68 ! (Twin_Turbo)
Hi again.
The problem with the pic is that it shows only the front ( upper ) level with cars.
As the other 3 levels set lower, like a step going down to the back, they don't appeare on the pic.
So just imagine 4 X what you see.
Does that sound better now ?

Re: Vettemeeting choose a 68 ! (WESCH)
Hey that looks like 68RDSTR's car!!! I didn't know he was visiting in Europe!!
That's a beauty! Good choice! Looks like a great show. A Corvette show held in the European hillsides in the summertime.....that sounds like a great excuse for a summer vacation for next year. Mix in some fine beer, and a castle or two in the background...the perfect place!
Thanks for sharing the PIX!!

The 68 is a 427 but not a L88, i think it's a tri power. It's from a member of the Dutch Heartbeat Corvette Club, I've seen it at meetings there.
As for seeing my car, no chance at that... it's still in pieces.
