Re: Goofy Sunday morning question (Captain Morgan)
since its just for dicussion here's a thought - the 3.8L v-6 with a 700r4 trans would bolt right in to the stock 350cu/350thm location - using the stock six cyl motor mounts and stock th350 crossmember every thing else would bolt up including the driveline - and the fan would be in the proper location - but WHY? - gas mileage? phooey!! - dave

My wife has a supercharged 3.8 Bonneville and it is one sweet engine. Lots of power, smooth and 30 mpg at 80-90 mph. I could see that swap along with the grand national.

FYI...if anyone wanted to use a buick v6 in any car with an automatic O/D tranny it would have to be the 2004R. The 700R4 is chevy bolt pattern only. the 200's are dual pattern bellhousing and will fit chevy as well as BOP.

I'm thinking about it when the 350 wears out. I have stopped trying to make my 350 go any faster. They just get too unruly when modified to the level to get into the 12s. I want to be able to drive it every day.

Yes I have, it was a red split window '63 coupe and kinda rough. The guy blew the 340hp and stuck a straight six in it to drive. One of his other cars was a '66 390hp 4sp coupe that was pretty nice.
My friend has both cars sitting in his basement where they have been for going on 30 years.
The guy that stuck the 6cyl in the '63 was killed several years ago and his estate then sold his nice '62 along with a rolling chassis'64 coupe less the frt cap and a '70 454 coupe that was killed in the front end along a '67 roadster body with no frame.
At one time in the early seventies this guy had about 10 Corvettes at one time, lived up in a dead end holler with his Mom. He was killed while trying to start a tractor. They had towed it to the top of a steeeep hill and let it roll down attempting to start it. When he let the clutch our it was all over. Good bye Erston Reed.

The turbo buicks can be seriously fast. But they lack consistancy so there not the best choice for a bracket racer.

I know a friend who bought a 69 vette with a straight six in it. The previous owner's vette was stolen and motor & transmission removed before being recovered. His insurance company said they would cancel coverage if he put a V8 back in it. So that is how this switch came about. My friend didn't keep the vette long after getting it, he couldn't stand the gutless combination. :nonod:

I have often wondered over the years if anybody ever put a straight six or V-6 in a Vette. I can't imagine why anyone would do that but it is just a thought.
