Default Can you install a new fuel filler boot without dropping the tank?

The boot around my fuel filler inlet is dry rotted and turn around backwards so the nipple is above the fuel inlet instead of below. Instead of trying to spin it around (I do not think the hose is attached), I was going to cut that one off and install a new one.

Can this be done without dropping the tank?

There should be a comment in your Chevrolet Corvette Shop Manual specific for your year car. The description in the 1980 Shop Manual says (page 6C3-3) "It is no longer necessary to drop the tank to service the gage unit". The fuel "sock" is on the end of the fuel meter assembly for my 1980.

I did this about a month ago on my 70. The drain on mine was not even there so I added it while I was there. Should be no problem for you.

Where did you get the boot and nipple? I saw the hose kit in Zips, but no boot.

If you're dealing with a 'one piece' fuel filler overflow boot, I believe you'll have to drop the tank just enough to pull it off and over the fuel filler neck. Reassemble in reverse. :smash:

Easy job without touching gas tank. Just unscrew and remove all of the filler hardware, tear out the old and put in the new. It is rubber and flexible. Most if not all of the vendors have the boot. :) MJ

Dont forget Zip - the corvetteforum "restoration store" :)
