Anyone driving their C3 to Carlisle?
I am considering driving my 69 SB to Carlisle, PA from New Hampshire next month. My mechanic says do it. I am curious how others who have driven their "antique" sports cars a thousand miles or so to a show have made out, mechanicaly speaking that is.

I would give it a go. I plan on taking either mine or my buds 78 to Carlisle.
Especially if your mechanic says it should do it. Pack the tool kit, extra fluids, the AAA card and go baby go. Just beware that after a few hundred miles it may tire you out more than a newer car. My mom and her boyfriend would drive his 78 to Florida and back (Pennsylvania) every year for over a decade. They loved it.

I did it once, when I first got my car (350 miles one way).
It's great to park with all of the other Corvette.
It's  to :seeya to other Corvettes 'till your arm hurts.
It sucks how hot it can actually get in PA in August (tough ride with my non-functional A/C).
It sucks how many chips you can get in your paint driving on Interstate. Part of a highway in PA was under construction, with the top layer of asphalt taken off, leaving a rough, debris laden road. I'm sure the nose of my car (with 1 year old paint) received 25+ chips  If you can avoid Interstates, you may fare better, or you may even want to get a bra just for the trip.
I've been that one time with the Corvette, and once without. Even with the heat and the chips, I have to say, I enjoyed the trip with the Corvette much more than without. Oh, and mechanically, it did great :yesnod:

The only drawback is in case you buy something big and it dosen't fit in the back of the vette.

Once I get my 69 painted (hurry up, tax season!), I plan on driving it from Minneapolis to Bowling Green, 3.70's, no A/C, no PS, no cruise control for 1000 miles each way. I have done it in a C4 and a C5, but I think the 69 will be the most fun (other than having to stop for gas twice as often :smash: ). Go for it!

Went in the wife's 82 last year and will be doing the same this year. We had no problems but the 82 is a more confortable car for long trips.

OMG, it's 519 miles from Knoxville. The weather better be clear, otherwise I'll be taking the Silverado. The vert is not ready for rain yet, if ever.
