Re: my spanish exchange student (MNJack)
I had a japanese (sp?) student a few years ago, he was about 12 years old I think. I took him to a Dodger game and we saw Hideo Nomo pitch, he was very happy (Nomo is a huge star in japan). It's a little wierd have someone from a different culture in your house, they seem very out of place. It was a great experience for both of us though.

Hope his exchange student doesn't read this, he'll think we are all a bunch of ignorant Americans.

If he is from Spain he probably wonders why you drive so slow. Cars over there don't have emission laws or ride height laws. So You see stuff that looks like it's just off the race track. I've been passed like I wasn't even moving when I was driving 240 KPH or about 150 mph. They have a high fatality rate and the wrecks spread car parts for a quarter mile or more.
You would really have to modify a vette with gearing for high speed to run with the boy's over there. All of the Mediterranean Spainish coast 750 some miles of it is the mecca for rich northern European vacationers. So you see lot's of $250,000 to $1 million dollar exotic sports cars. Our vettes aren't in the same league.

no speed limit in Spain and no laws for ride height and such? That can't be true, the car specs are goverened from central european policy (european union) and the cars have to confirm to about the same rules in every country.
And no speed limit, they DO have a speed limit, it's 120km/h like most countries here. I found out the hard way, I got a very nasty speeding ticket last time I was in Barcelona.
The Spanish coast isn't a mecca for rich europeans anymore either, Joe Average goes to Spain. The popularity of Spain as avacation destination has dwindled quite a bit.
Most cars in Spain are dinged up od poopieboxes, especially in the city. There are high dollar cars over ther e but most are either in the south (near sea) or in Andorra.
The high fatality rate is correct, they do have a higher fatality rate than most other countries here but the worst is Portugal, especially the highway from N to S along the coast, lots of deaths there.

I've been to Madrid and LOVED it there. I wish I could move there. And yes, they DO drive fast there. At least on the highways. I noticed a couple of cars practically keeping up with the plane as we were flying into the airport. Looked like they were going near twice the speed of other cars.
My car keeps grinning at me "when are you taking ME to Madrid?"
If only I had the means. :nopity

Re: my spanish exchange student (Twin_Turbo)
Twin_turbo You have to get out on the toll freeways where it cost something $35 US dollars just to get on the freeway. You don't see any riff raff cars at all because the toll booths are so expensive.

In the early 1980s I was in Madrid, Zaragosa, and Rota while in the USAF! :flag and found it to be a beautiful place. As for exchange students, we've had 3 and just today began the process of getting a fourth. They have all been spanish speaking latinas but none from spain. unas gran experiencias!

tagar, Jose is from Madrid. His English is actually pretty good. One of his fellow student, Raf, speaks almost no English at all, but every time he comes over to our house he says, "You have a beautiful car!!!" :) Today he was asking me something about caballeros..?
