G-tech Perf. Meters $59.95
I thought I would give a heads up to anyone who might want a performance meter. They go for $125US on the forum mall, but are on for $59.95US ($80CDN) on E-bay

While not totally accurate, they do make a good, inexpensive tune-up tool. Bet the neighbours are going to love having me launch the vette in front of the house every ten minutes for the first week or so!! :auto:

I too got mine through BF Goodrich when they were giving one away with the purchase of 4 of their tires. My little customized '80 Rabbit I don't have anymore hit 0.97 Gs in a turn and it was still stable as driving straight and flat.
How inaccurate are they? They can be as far off as these values:
0-60 = +/- 0.10 of a second
60-0 = +/- 2 feet
1/4 mi. ET = 0.10
1/4 mi. speed = +/- 1 MPH
Horsepower = +/- 3 HP
Instant G's = +/- 0.02 G's
Contin. G's = +/- 0.02 G's
These are the worst case scenarios say Tesla Products. If you visit their site http://www.gtechpro.com and at the top click on "Support" then click the link called "Downloads" you'll find the user manual for the G-Tech Pro. The company stresses that you make multiple runs of whatever you're doing and average them. I'll further that and say that when I did mine, I'd even throw out the highest and lowest readings and average everything in the middle.

Re: G-tech Perf. Meters $59.95 (pws69)
I have heard people running them while making a run on a drag strip and noticing a .1 -.4 second difference. All my runs with my G tech have been very close to my time slips of the time.

I also got a free one (my second) from BFG. My first one I got thru a corvetteforum group purchase for around $125! They are probably discontinuing this model because they have a new improved version (that is much more expensive). It is very accurate but you have to mount it perfectly level. If the mounting is not level or the road surface is not level you will introduce an error in the readouts, but I can't tell you how much error. The instrument itself is very accurate. Not sure if you can also get inaccuracies from a poorly sprung car that bounces around under hard acceleration/decelleration. MJ
There will be differences at the dragstrip because you are measuring slightly different things. The Gtech presumably starts timing the instant you start moving (and it feels motion). The dragstrip timer starts when you trip the light, which occurs slightly after you actually start moving forward, depending on where you have staged. The mph you get at the dragstrip is your average mph over the last xxx feet (don't remember how many feet) while your Gtech mph is your actual mph, which for most of us will be a higher number.

$60 bucks is a great price.
For that price you can't afford not to buy one. They're a pretty handy tuning aid and fun to play with!

Re: G-tech Perf. Meters $59.95 (pws69)
Can anyone tell us how "not totally accurate" these are?
4/12/2003 6:21 PM
Strip G-Tech
Reaction 0.6154
60 ft 2.0543 2.027
330 ft 5.5757 5.452
1/8 ET 8.5003 8.254
1/8 mph 84.52 90.25
60 mph 4.316
This is with my '74 Corvette (350 4-spd)
I wasn't aware of the requirement that it be mounted perfectly level. From what I understood as long as you calibrated it correctly the mounting didn't matter.
Also, they have a new "firmware" version that I plan to install this weekend, it is reported to improve the accuracy of the unit.
I have been using it to compare before and after runs when power tuning my vehicles. It may not be perfectly accurate but to be able to go around the corner to the local deserted stretch of road and get immediate results is worth the $$$ to me.

Yes, you can trust PayPal, it's the safest way to transfer money. They've just introduced it available in Euros (http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...ase&rid=347675 ). You will need to join PayPal with a valid credit card of course. I've read the sellers feedback and he has a 99.3% positive feedback, and he ships worldwide. Check it out here >> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2422990521
Dave
P.S. Part of the reason why they're not totally accurate is that the G-Tech measures from as soon as the car starts to move, whereas at the track your car is already moving when it breaks the beam that starts the timer.

Re: G-tech Perf. Meters $59.95 (no_radio)
The track timer starts when the light changes, the Gtech doesn't start til I move. It's really a good component, you just have to understand the differences between it and the track timing equipment. Also, on the GTech Pro there's a feature to practice your reaction times to the lights.

The only timer that starts with the green is the reaction time.

Re: G-tech Perf. Meters $59.95 (BSeery)
I ordered my G-Tech earlier today. I already have my pay-pal receipt and an e-mail from USPS saying the package is shipping out and they gave me a tracking number.
Looks like I will have a G-Tech long before my car is finished.

Has anyone ordered and received a g-tech from the above eBay seller? I am interested in the G-Tech for $60.00, however, I'm a little concerned about doing business with EBay considering how pervasive fraud is on their site. Also Paypal is nothing but a hassle in my opinion.
