well, the back end can be raised but then you put an angle to the half shafts. The 11.5 width will require you to move / remove the parking brake cable where it attaches to the rear control arm.
Plus, the large tire size will change your effective final drive ratio.

I need the extras gear ratio. I am running out of gear in the 1/4. Do you know if the tire will fit. I know about the width problems, what about the height?

I think they will fit, a 275/60/R15 tire is about 28", 295/60/r15 is close to 29"
I HOPE they do fit, I'm looking at 29X15.50R-16 (or even 31X16.50R-16) hoosiers.

I ran an honest 28 inch by 12.50 tire. It did allow some room between the front part of the fender and tire. The most critical area is where the trailing arm goes into the frame. The back of the tire clears the fender by alot.
I use to make cardboard templetes of the tire. You know the od, the section width and the tread diameter.
If a tire is 29 inches tall and a 15 series the tire is 29-25 divided by 2 or 7 inches taller then the bead. The section is 11.5 so that is how wide the templete is. Mark a tread width, draw it out nicely , cut out then mount a emplty rim and put the templete on the rim and rotate slowly to find any clearance problems.
It really works and I took extra care cutting out the templetes. I made mine from 1/8th or 1/4 brown cardboard type material.

I 'think' I saw a dude w/ 29" slicks on a mid-'70s in April at the strip, but I'm not SURE they were 29s. Bence runs fairly big tires; maybe he can help you, or remember what size slicks that 'other' guy ran....

Of coarse I am still around. I have been awakened and the house doors all got new dead bolts. The shop has become a vault. The steel garage door has double locks, one on each side plus all outside handles were removed. The steel man door has the larges clap and pad lock available, a new dead bolt and also the normal locking handle. The 2 window close to the ground, 7 feet up from the ground have bars every 6 inches and any other window is more then 10 feet off the ground. Even they have heavy cabinets in front of them. I also have 2, yes 2 burglar alarms and am setting up a periphial motion sensor system.
The vet also got a new secret disarming system to prevent fuel pump function unless keyed in to prevent theft.
Now if my Yorkie would only grow new teeth. :)
John I did make alot of cardboard, that is not the stuff , it is rigid but is a type of press board tire profiles, mounted a bare rim set the profile in the bead and ran it around the wheel well checking for clearance. It does work and knowing the parameters of the tire is accurate.
