Default OK, now my 82 CE is starting to drive me crazy, need help please...

Just had a load of work done to my car. The mechanic found 3 shorts and fixed them all. Still getting a check engine light after the car gets hot.
Changed the temp sensor, pigtail and wire. When the check engine light goes
on, the engine runs real shaky, and finally goes into LIMP HOME mode at
about 1200 RPM. If you step on the gas, there's a dead spot, and a backfire.
If you shut the car down for 10 minutes or so, it starts right back up, and
runs great until the light comes on again.
Could the 02 sensor be the culprit?? Any ideas??

Your going to get better answer's on the Crossfire forum.

My first suggestion would be to pull the codes, heres a link on how to do that.

Good advice.

I had to replace the O2 sensor on my 82 and the EGR valve. That cured rough idle and running problems as well as ck engine light. You know the O2 sensor is pluged into the exhaust stream and over time gets heat abused. That would be the first thing I would swap out, and get a OEM not a knockoff. Have the EGR checked for a torn diaphragm. Both are easy and cheap to replace.
Hang in there Peter and post some pics with the new decals....your car looks great!! :chevy

it's a closed loop problem, check the air switch solenoids, valves and stuff for leaks or an exh. leak in front of the O2, it'll create a lean signal.

Check codes, something is seriously wrong here.

Thanks all, for your advice.

I ordered an 02 sensor from Chevy, and will replace it asap.

Will also check the codes as well.
