High Performance Fuel Pumps
I'm getting a new fuel pump for my 81 which has 3 fuel lines (inlet, outlet, and return). All the high performace fuel pumps I've found only have an inlet and an outlet. Is there a high performance fuel pump made for my car, or to I have to use a stock replacement?

A lot of people who put on the high performance fuel pumps end up blocking the fuel return line. I just replaced my fuel pump with a stocker from NAPA. The replacement pump was made by Carter, and I have not had any fuel problems with the ZZ4.

Stock pump should be fine for a sb under 400 hp, about what mine is running with stock fuel pump. Had it up to 110 last night with no sign of fuel starve. I would not run it at 5000+ rpm's for long periods of time though.

I have a Holley "street" pump for my ZZ4. I just capped off the return line (2 years ago) and have not had a problem since then.

A. Unless you have a high-performance engine (above 400 hp), you don't really need a high-performance fuel pump.
B. You can cap off the fuel return line, but that can lead to vapor lock. The other alternative is to put a fuel regulator in line and attach the return line to the regulator.
C. In fact, if I were going to put on a HP pump, I would run a regulator anyway - possibly overkill, but in my world it's economic stupidity to run the risk of blowing up a multi-thousand dollar engine because you're too cheap to buy a $20 regulator.

i would not recommend capping off the return line, because of vapor lock...you never know! instead, i'd just leave the return line pointing down uncapped so the tank can vent. as for high performance fuel pumps...i agree with the others...stick with stock replacement...you can't go wrong, plus you can attach your existing return line where it belongs.
