Yes, very easy and works great. Just keep track of the order in which things came apart so that so you can put it back together again the right way.

No way you could do it on the car. The shifter has to come out. I rebuilt mine a few months ago but the car is still off the road, so I can't comment on the final results.

Re: Shifter rebuild (JIM)
I can't speak to the Hurst shifter. I am sure it is very good but most people that change their shifter do so when the stock shifter is worn out, the same as when changing to polyurethane bushings (there is raely a comparison between fresh rubber a-arm bushings and polyurethane bushings). I can tell you that I just rebuilt my stock shifter and it is awesome. There is no slop at all and the throws are pretty short. I am not saying a Hurst won't be an improvement but I suspect the level of improvement over a brand new or freshly rebuilt stock shifter will not be that great. I will stand corrected if someone freshly rebuilt their stock shifter, used it and then moved to a Hurst and saw a dramatic improvement over a new or like new stock shifter.

Re: Shifter rebuild (BB68Vett)
I have always loved that stubby little Corvette shifter. :grouphug: I understand that Hurst has a look alike, but I don't think the reverse lock out is functional. It just wouldn't be the same.
Jim I appreciate your bringing up the Hurst option, but I think I will go the rebuild route..........should be good as new if all the wear parts are replaced...........shouldn't it?

You're right the reverse lockout lever is no functional. However the lockout lever does still move up and down.So I guess you could fake it  Come by and you can drive mine and that should make up you mind for you. But seriously if you can justify spending the money.... well the old one is already out why not upgrade? You know how much room there isnt around the tranny. When I did mine the rebuild kits were not available so I had no choice but also no regrets.
