Good news, Bad news, good news!
Last week I took apart my dash to fix an inoperative oil pressure gauge. I was able to fix it. That's the good news. The bad news is that when I tried to clean up the gauges... (someone lived on a dirt road)... the letters smeared on the face of the amp gauge. Being a fast learner I didn't smear any more gauges... heheh. The clock face was in pretty bad shape already with a little chipped and bubbled paint.. The good news is that I called Corvette intrument service and he had new faces.. Plus.. An odometer drive gear which I needed to fix too, so while I was waiting for the mail over the long week end. I pulled the speedo and took it apart. Today at work I polished all of the clear lenses and they look great. When I got home today the new parts were here and I successfully rebuilt the speedometer so now everything works. I also rebuilt the clock over the week end so now it works. Now all that's left is putting all of the clusters back together and then into the car. :hurray:

Glad you only screwed up one before you stopped. I usually have to screw up two or three things before I catch on. :D

Mine is mechanical. The little sector gear on the movement was frozen.I claened it and just freed everything up. The gauge never worked since I had the car and the previous owner stored the car for 8 years so......

blue, I hope while you have that speedo in your hands, you have taken it COMPLETELY apart, that means under the compass card and down in the frame the cable snaps into there are two screws with 1/4" dia. heads...you need get down to taking them out, because there is a hidden bearing up under that aluminum cut, rides on the magnet assy, and all that and the input bearings need oiling...just a tiney bit of thin oil....but needs cleaned first....I use carb cleaner and a Qtip....

If its not too late, I need to know where to plug my odometer reset cable into my speedo. Could you shoot a pic? My speedo is installed and I have the cable laying the back of the vette. I just can't seem to see where it connects to the speedo for some reason.
