Ignition lock troubles on my 72
The ignition switch on my 72 is wearing out the key is worn and gettig harder to start. I seems you have to hold your mouth a certain way with your tonge out to get it started. Now it is more like a woman in that I have to fiddle with it for 20 min. to get it going. I have purchased a new cylinder with GM keys. My question is: Can the removal of the old cylinder be removed by me or do I have to take it to an automotive locksmith? Can someone talk me through the proceedure?
Thanks,
Michael

Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Steering. Download Paper #1 and Pic #1 for either a T&T steering column or a Standard steering column. All the information is there.

When I had the same problem I had a locksmith make a new key from the codes. A good locksmith can measure the highs and lows on your old key and then make a new one based on what the codes should be... ... A copy of the old key won't work. All of my locks worked like new after that.
