How Much A/C Compressor 'drag' with A/C turned off?
I'm wanting to guesstimate the effects of removing the belt from my A/C compressor. It barely cools the car and I rarely have a need to use the A/C as the car only sees duty with the tops off or on with windows down.
What HP 'savings'/gain would I realize by removing the A/C belt? Pros/cons?

With the A/C turned off it is just a freewheeling pulley. Maybe one to two hp saving by not having to move the mass of the pulleys.

Thanks for the info. Will leave the belt on.

Also, unless you turn the AC on every now and then the compressor will seize. A AC system that "barely" cools the car is still better than one that doesn't work at all. :yesnod:

FYI----the a/c system on my 72 was a POS. The belt was on the compressor and turning, but I took EVERYTHING off. I felt no difference in power at all.
