Friend of mine just got an all orig. 69 SS396 Chevelle. Nice clean driver. Said the car has the M21 trans in it. He asked me what is the diference is between a Muncie 21 or 22? I read an article on the subject in CF some time ago, but....forgot the answer. Any takers? (I know there are.) Thanks. Paul.

The gear ratios are the same BUT the M-22 has a different gear angle and they are made of different material, this is what makes them stronger and slightly noisy. Combine these two things, add a roller bearing 1st gear and you have a trans worth $2000. ...redvetracr

the rockcrusher tranny( the noisy, strong one) had almost straight cut gears!- loud as hell but built like a rock :smash:

I have the M22 in mine & it is a bit stiffer, definately louder and a very tough tranny.
