Default how strong are are rear ends

if i replace my half shafts and u-joints with hevy duty ones, will my rear end blowout when i go to the track. i broke my u-joint the last time i went there and i think my half shafts are starting to twist. so if i have to buy new parts, which one would you rather buy. a new rear end or half shafts when i go to the track. or do i even have to worrie about my rear end blowing out. thanks

Check the Tom Differentials web site for HD rear ends. You can do some things to strengthen them but it all depends on how much load you apply. The drag racers here can add more on this subject I'm sure. The side yokes and spindles should be checked for twisting under heavy loads too. What about adding 1/2 shaft loops for safety protection?
Good Luck,
Gary

Basicly is to catch the halfshaft if it ever comes loose or twists.

I haven't managed to twist any halfshafts yet so I'm guessing your motor is putting out more torque than mine. Are you running slicks?

I would get some halfshaft loops definitely. If a u-joint comes apart on you again, it will keep the halfshaft from beating up your car. Once you have the loops you need to be careful of the spindles. The outer spindles when broken can cause the tire to fly off. If your rear end doesn't have high mileage on it I think it will hold up. The Corvette rear end is stronger than most people give it credit for. Anything will break if you beat on it long enough.

I've broken my side yokes so far but that's it. I've upgraded to Tom's tuned posi and 30 spline side yokes since.

Here's a pic of the safety loops I installed after breaking my 2nd side yoke.

Are you racing at ESTA ? They just repaved the whole track 2 weeks ago. They're going to be installing some billboard style lights also for the time/ speed displays.

Automatics are much easier on the rearends than sticks ;) .

yes i was at esta, the first day on the new track. no i dont run slicks, just my indy 500's. the cars body has about 70,000 on it. i think im just gonna put some hevy duty half shafts in it and hope the rear end dont blow on me. im gonna post another messege after this one asking what where the web sites who had half shafts van stell i know, who else, there was one that had a 300.00 shafts that looked very impresive.
