Best cleaner/polish?
What does the best job for brightening up paint that hasn't been looked after all that well? Not destroyed but kind of dull. :auto:

it depends how much paint is actually left. Sometimes rubbing compound or a heavy cleaner wax can actually expose primer. On some pretty dull cars, I've used that new Turtlewax Color match. It actually has paint in it. As a side note, it works WONDERS on black cars with swirl marks.

Zaino, is all that I use. I have used others polishes such as Mothers but it just didn't have the deep shine that you get from Zaino. It comes down to quality, Mothers costs less, as does Turtle Wax. Zaino may cost more but its worth it. Oh, and sounds like you might be be needing a new paint job.

I had pretty good success with Maguires 3 step process. Cleaner, polish, and then wax. Worked well on my 70 paint that was 15 years old. Paint now looks pretty good and I can devote time and $$ elsewhere. I was pleasantly suprised with the results.
Key here is to clean first, then polish, and hope there is enough paint left to polish. The wax is to finish off and shine. You may want to even try a clay bar after the cleaner. Some people rave about clay bar but I haven't much experience with it.
Good luck.

My 15 year old son. :yesnod:
canada74: A guy at work used a brillo pad to clean his company car......judging by the marks it left, I'd say it wasn't such a good idea.......
.....try Meguire's Scratch X, which is a very, very, very mild cutting compound, over the hood or fender to see if it makes a difference....if that doesn't work, you may have to resort to mechanical buffing........
