for those who installed camaro or firebird rear seatbelts in their vette
I installed the passenger side seat belts. One question, do the belts lock when you pull quickly on them. I feel they should but they don't lock when I pull hard when they are bolted in. Any ideas?

I remember thinking that too. But I think that the inertial engagement of the belt-lock requires some g-force inside the thing where the belt sits before it deploys. For example, mine doesn't lock when I yank on it, but it locks right up when I'm roaring around a steeply banked on-ramp at 110 mph, or when I stop really short.

Exactly. There's a little weight inside that swings when you accelerate or decelerate and engages the locking mechanism. You can yank all day while your sitting still and it'll never lock up.

better get a roll bar mark if you are thinking of doing 110 on an on ramp..especially the 407's on ramps... :steering:

Ok, I'll wear the lap belt and helmit on the drivers side, pick one of you guys up to ride in the passenger side and lock it up to see if you fly into the dash   Seriously, When I pull quick on the Silverado belts they lock. The inertia thing does make since, hopefully. I'll install the drivers side Friday and try it. Thanks guys.

Just try to lean forward to adjust the radio, they seem to lock up every time you don't want it too

74 vert, when I first installed the same belts into my '71 I tried pulling on them quickly to make them lock-up, didn't work. But, when I hit the brakes no problem they work fine.

JB is right. There is this little rubber pendulum and when it hangs straight down they release, but any other way and they lock. This means cornering, braking, accelerating, and crashing. This aslo means that if you hold the unit in your hand and try yo pull the belt out it wont come. It isnt a bad retracter that wont let out the belt, you have to set it on a table firmly and pull. I kind of like the idea of it. unfourtianitly if you are on a steep hill i dont thin kthe belt would come out.

t's easy to test. Just park on a steep downward incline with the front down and don't hook the belt, start down and then try to pull the belt out and hook it.

This may be a dumb question, but..
Are these shoulder belts or lap belts?
