Home Made L88 Air Filter Base Hold-Down Piece
Over time there have been a few folks here that have asked about how to set up the L88 cold air intake system. Obviously, you can order up all of the pieces from some of the catalogs to go w/ your L88 hood. I'm posting this for those who have asked if there's another way to do it w/o spending the $$$ for the full set-up.
I asked a neighbor buddy to set up a simple way to hold the original air filter base to the carb in order to save the cost of the smaller filter that attaches to the carb, which the kits contain, and serves this purpose but isn't exactly cheap. I've always struggled to describe it for those who were interested.
Below are finally some pics that will save me the trouble. My friend took the filter base down the street to his garage & returned in about 30-40 minutes w/ the simple piece that you see. I just painted it black & put it on. Total cost if you can do it yourself or know somebody that can- next to nothing.

Not a bad idea, Les! Now patent it and make yourself some cash. :)
Not that it's a HUGE market... you still might find some niche interest. and if someone rips you off, lawsuits abound! Buy yourself another vette.
Seriously though, cool!

Ingenious! Wonder why GM made the original cage? Maybe to keep small birds out of the carb.
Let me be the first to say "I want one!" :yesnod:

Thanks guys- the credit really goes to my neighbor. He envisioned & designed what I wanted....& he's a die hard Ford guy!!! He's always making a point of it too, but in a good natured way. He has a Cobra that he built- it's powered by a roller-cammed Ford 406 stroker that dynoed at 560+ HP. Does it haul? Uhhhhh, yea. He's not a bragger but the other night he said that on a long straight away he grabbed a gear at 120-130 MPH & the car started going into a slide. Now that's a car that'll keep your attention!

The screen in the origional is a good thing to have...it's called a flame arrester. If you have a nasty backfire in the carb you won't burn the car up...
