OT - Anyone into SLR photography?
I'm really into SLR photography, and was wondering if anyone knows of any good boards or forums for me to check out?! What kind of cameras do you guys use? I have a Pentax Sp1000 and a Konica FT-1 motor. Just got a fisheye lens for it. Woo! :seeya

hey, love photography...i don't have an SLR right now, but i used to have a Nikon FE and before that i had an FG...i'd like to get an old Nikon F2 and some darkroom equipment...i used to enjoy that stuff a lot. it's a great hobby...i use to drive around for hours taking pictures. don't know of any websites though. i've even considered getting into medium format type stuff. kinda pricey though. I've always wanted to get a nice telescope and do astronomical stuff. :flag

i used to do a lot of photography.i had a nikon F3 with the fast winder and lenses from 24 up to 300.all very high quality stuff.i was and still am a contributing photographer at raceway park.a while back i sold a lot of equipment but i still have a FA and a couple of lenses.
the trend is digital and high quality cameras are still very expensive.
i recently bought a canon s40 and i enjoy taking photos and movies with it,but you cant compare it with the older and heavier nikon stuff.
its a great hobby

Run a Nikon N80.
Have crappy Quantaray lenses for it, but they get the job done and I can't afford anything better. :nonod:
Fun though, IM me some time for some neat pics I've taken.

I used to teach photography and also how to develop both b&w and colour. B&W is still my favourite medium.

Re: OT - Anyone into SLR photography? (gdh)
I've been hooked all winter since I didn't have my car *sigh* I miss it :smash: I love the challenge of it, It actually takes some skill rather then just flipping the switch on a digital and taking almost perfect pictures.
Anyone have any neat pictures they wanna post. I remember someone posting that shot of lightening a while ago, it was amazing, but i forget who took it, although i think it was with a digital camera.

I used to use a fully manual Cannon FTB till parts for it became impossible to find ( and it jammed the shutter )
Now I moved up to an AE1 program, auto exposure, auto speed  But it will still work if I pull the batteries out :smash:

I am what you call a semi Professional photographer I guess.. I do pro work (contract) when I feel like it. Most of the work I do now is nature and Nudes... I have gone full digital now , more control over a controversial subject matter.. My SLRs (I have 6 or 7) sit idle... I have been doing photography for 25 years.. I guess it is my passion ..

In 1989 I got a Minolta SLR. Great investment! I got a nice case for it, big enough to hold a dozen rolls of film, batteries, and such. Also got a generic flash unit for it and a 200MM zoom lens.
Since then, that camera and those SAME accessories have been with me all over Europe, then back to the USA and I've covered the whole Western portion of the USA. I want a digital cam but this Minolta will be a tough act to follow!

Have any of you guys heard of the "digital film" that fits inside an 35mm SLR? I remember reading about it a few months back in one of the PC-mags, but I haven't seen anything else since then.
Supposedly it allows you to use all your SLR lenses, etc. but have all the advantages of digital photography. I'm sure like most bastardized technology it probably won't work very well.

Haven't heard of it for 35mm, but they have digital backs for medium/large format cameras that follow the same premise. Insane mpx rating, costs as much as a new Civic.
Check out Kodak's web site for their digital backs....
GREAT photos, though. Not as bastardized as you would think.

I use a rather old Canon AL-1 with a 35-105 zoom/portrait lens. It was not top-of-the-line in its day but it sure does work very well. I do not have a scanner so you do not see pics taken with that camera in the Forum. My digital (pics in the Forum) is a Kodak DC280. Dated again but still works very nicely.

Can't help with the forums, but I'll be interested to see whether anybody posts any.
I've been in publishing as an editor for about 18 years so I have to take photos occasionally. I've got a Canon A1 rig that works really well and I recently scored my personal Holy Grail--an "old-style" all-manual F1.
Every now and again I'll go out and wander around and shoot. Seems like I'll burn off a whole 36-exposure roll to get one that looks good and "arty."

I use a Nikon F4 with Nikkor lenses. I use to have several other Nikon bodies such as an F3 w/ all accessories, but somebody thought they needed them more for pawnshop money. Oh well, such is life. In the expansion of my garage, I also built a 10' X 12' B&W darkroom. I wanted to teach my kids the art of B&W Photography before it was totally gone to digital.
