Default choke not closing all the way

I got my moter running good but the choke won't close all the way and it is hard to start. If you close the choke by hand it starts fine, it is only about a 1/8 of a inch from closing.

Have you adjusted the bimetal choke spring (the round plastic thing)? It needs to be adjusted fairly precisely.

check fast idle cam adjustment, sounds like you might be stuck on first step.

The choke is not supposed to close all of the way. It should be just about 1/16-1/8 from closing (where it is today). I would be more concerned with the fitness of the carb. Given my experience with my Q-Jet, it needed Lars' attention to bring it back from the grave...

I contacted lars the other day about my carb running very rich at cold startup. He told me to make sure that the choke was open 1/4 of an inch at full choke (acording to specs for the edelbrock Q-jet replacement) and make 1/16 " adjustments until it clears up. I took his advise and it worked so I don't think the gap you are talking about is your problem
BTW mine is 3/8 of an inch at cold startup
