Ok Chevy guys… Who supplies the best bang for your buck? [Crate Motor]
It has happened. The 350 in my 89 GMC fell apart 3 hours ago. The timing couldn’t be worse and I’m forced to go with a crate motor. Any recommendations?
Also, I had a transmission replacement (700R4) planned two months down the road and I’m going to do it now as well. I’ve been looking at http://www.700r4.com (Bowtie Overdrives). Anyone know anything about this company and/or their products?

I bought a 383/465 HP engine from AR Racing in Virginia for $2995..
Check my sig for performance of the engine..
So far I made over 35 drag strip passes and drove over 5000 miles with the engine and it still runs like new and very strong.. With a better driver.. this engine is good enought to easily catapult a C3 into the 11's for a price that is $500 lower than the GM ZZ4 engine which has over 100 HP less...

Depends on how you plan on using the truck, how long, and how much you want to spend. THe 350HO is a torquey motor, and the goodwrench motors are cheap. You used to be able to get a new 350 short block at cheap parts houses for under $500, long blocks for $700, maybe still can. Joe

I don't do anything cheap. I strongly believe you get what you pay for.
I use the truck for daily transportion and towing. However, I will be very frustrated if I don't have some good performance under my right foot.

I recently got my cylinder heads done by a local machine shop. Spent lots of time chatting with the owner, Mike Henderson. In many cases it might be cheaper to go with a local engine builder than to go with a crate motor. You also have the option to upgrade your motor with performance parts or better-than-factory components. www.dsengine.com

That's a list of engines that they are currently selling on Ebay.. Several forum members bought engines from them already.. You don't need to buy the engines on Ebay.. you can just call them and check what they've got availabe.. They will offer you the same.. or even better deal than on Ebay..
Their Phone # is 540-439-1961 and ther person to talk to is Mark Lim..
Even after buying the engine - they provided me with all the information that I requested.. Great tech support :yesnod: :yesnod:
If I would be on the market again for another engine.. I wouldn't think twice to buy from them again...
You can also check their Ebay feedback.. They sold over 100 engines on Ebay and there hasn't been ANY complaint about the quality of their Engines...
