Any advice on painting block & other stuff?
I am currently in a rebuild of a 454 and I am at the point of thinking of painting the block & other engine components. I am looking for stock appearance, so she'll be Chev. Orange.
Does anyone have any advice about techniques used, or certain paints that work better than others?
Thanks,
Rob

I can't encourage you enough to go with the good quality urethane paints (like Delstar). If you'd like to see how this looks in Chevy Orange, check out the thread over on C2 on the new CCC 406 engine:

The first time I painted my engine chevy orange but it clashed with the red car so the next time I used the same paint that was on the car. Like it alot better.
I attend alot of cruise nights and with the hood up and matching colors to me it looks better.
Even the valve covers match. They are not painted.

Bill Hirsch sells high quality engine enamel. I have used One-Shot lettering enamel also. Just make sure the engine is good and clean. Hot tanking alone does not remove all the grease embedded in the cast iron. You have to clean it with mineral spirits or degreaser. Joe

I painted my intake with POR-15 chev. orange engine enamel and had excellent results. Real nice to work with.
Took off air cleaner and distributor shielding and stripped with Zip-Strip and a wire brush/rag (bitch of a job). Degreased and cleaned debris, applied with an artists brush.
