Anyone tried these Craftsman rounded bolt removers?
I bought a set and removed a rusted battery tray bolt from a Ford product that vicegrips couldn't touch. The set wasn't cheap, but I figure they'll pay for themselves by saving me lots of time and grief.

There are a lot of Craftsman tools do some funky but usefull things. I got a set of those ratcheting (SP?) wrenches and I really like them. How do you like what you have? Quality? Usefull?

I have to consider it funny that SEARS here offers rounded bolt removers, when they are just about the ONLY commonly available source for those famous bolt rounders....12 point sockets.....and their stupid insistance on providing them in every decent priced tool set they have....
frankly, considering the sheer stupidity of such marketing, I have to conclude it to be a conspiracy to sell more junk and promote 'professional' repairs....
the amount of actual 12 point bolts ever run into is about ZERO....only one I have ever seen from Detorit over the decades is early Pontiac fuel pumps....
never anything else....
they don't EVEN want me started on the silliness of the tool situation...

Hey Gene,
Don't forget the flexible coupling and the steering column detachable flange pinch bolts. They had a 7/16 12-point head. GM part number 7807271 and still available from GM dealers. I was actually responsible for that bolt back in the 70s. But it was already in production with the 12-point head before I got there. So don't blame me.
The metric equivalent of that bolt, (I can't recall that part number) had a metric hex head. I was responsible for that design. All the GM small diameter flexible couplings used it in the 80s and 90s.

Don't forget the center support bolt on the inside of the TH400.
Need a thin wall (1/4" drive) 7/16 12 piont.
Gene: I hear you, though. I recently (1.5 yrs back) bought a nice Craftsman
socket/tool set that was on sale for $99. 1/4",3/8",1/2" - shallow and deep
sockets - ALL 6 point. DAMN - the set even comes with an assortment of 6
point combination wrenches ! When's the last time you bought a 6 point box end ?
Funny - this post is originally about a Ford battery tray. I fixed mine this past
weekend. How did I get the rusted bolts ? 4" grinder : my bolt remover.

I just received, for my birthday (56), a set of six sockets with the supersize numbers...I am needing big numbers, but when it is dark under the car, etc,,,the big numbers could help anybody.
But Sears? from what I have seen locally, I would not invest in the company. Had to do water heater lately and NOBODY seemed to know anything about ordering it or installing it. And the store is real messy with kids working as sales people...

12 point wrenches are (generally) not for 12 point bolt heads. 12 points are there to give you better maneuverability in tight spots. in some situations, you may not be able to get a 6 point wrench in the spot. 12 points gives you a tighter angle in which to operate. if you use the proper size, and (obviously) change between metric and standard, you shouldn't round off most bolts. i'll admit, i rounded off 2 or 3 extremely tough ones, but i may have had the wrong size, too. everyone cuts on craftsman, but my grandfather still has his original set of tools, and craftsman tool box too. good stuff, good price!

Yeah. Those ratcheting box wrenches are the shiznit. If the bolt removers are half as cool, you scored big.
