Default Trivia-1979 Electrical Auxiliary Cooling Fan

Have not done a trivia for some time so here goes. The 1979 electrical auxiliary cooling fan was available but never listed as an RPO. With what other RPO package was it associated? And why was it never widely accepted; at least as offered by GM? Hint; those who like 180F t-stats will be amazed! Or appalled....

RPO L82.

And it only kicks in at 232F (or something like that) or when the A/C is turned on.

I believe it came with the ZN1 trailering package and associated with A/C as well. Some 1001 1979s came with it. Pretty rare. And it did not kick in until 238F, well beyond what most Corvette owners would consider normal. But the thermo switch on the passenger side could be replaced with aftermarket and you would still have a nice stock looking package. As to the prize, one Canadian $2.00 coin (Tooney) headed your way!

I am very interested in your option list. A/C only! Or with trailering option? I cannot break-out how that auxiliary fan was offered in the 1979.

Maybe I can help (confuse) the issue. My early build '79 L82 has the aux cooling fan. I also have the heavy duty cooling and A/C. I think the L82 with A/C triggered this option but it has been awhile since I thought about it. Want to know something interesting? It didn't comepletely work. At least not on many of the early '79's. The aux cooling was supposed to either operate if you had a high heat condition (230 drg's on 190 drg's off I think) or if the A/C was on and the fan blower was on high setting. The aux fan operate due to high heat but I never was able to get it to work via the A/C. I never knew if the cooling setting Max or Normal was supposed to make any difference but as I said the A/C trigger never worked on mine. Hope I helped.

I just guessed.

The one that is a stock option on the 82 kicks in at 205 degrees

Mine works fine -- A/C, high heat, whatever. I haven't seen my build sheet, but my is very heavily optioned. The original buyer basically went down the list and checked off darn near everything -- except trailering and CB radio! :yesnod:
