what kind of (mech) fuel pumps are you guys using with 383 motors?
i have changed out my carb from a 750 holly to a 670 street advenger (holly) and put a fuel pressure guage in the fuel rails, it must be a stock fuel pump cuz im getting 4 lbs pressure at idle and im assuming that dropps a lot under load- was wondering what type pumps guys are using- also had problems with the heater hose on the intake(elderbrock preformer) the chrome fuel rails run right over the heater hose outlet nipple (next to the thermastat housing- bought a 90 from carquest but still had to bend the fuel rail up to clear the top of the 90 and really dont like the way it looks--any ideas?----carl border=0>

I would not assume the pressure is dropping under load. I put an in-car gauge on my circle-track car and the fuel pressure is solid at 4-5psi. That is during idle and hard acceleration.. This is an aftermarket Carter pump.
Having said that, I also would not assume it's not dropping unless you can see the gauge. I wouldn't worry about it unless you suspect fuel stavation problems.

I have a "406" from American Speed and they install a stock Carter pump. The dyno sheet shows the fuel flow in #/hr. It starts at 94.6 @ 2496RPM and tops out at 171.5 @ 5300RPM. Just some info. Dale

I have the Carter street pump #6900 on my 350 ci that I plan on using on the 406 ci I am building. Don't see any problems, good pump at a good price. :D

to tell you the truth it runs better than it ever did ! that 750 was too big. i have black soot marks on the wall in the garage from reving the car in the garage! i followed the 73 in my van and watched the exhaust as the mechanic nailed and didnt see ANY BLACK EXHAUST- I WAS JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THE PUMP-- its more responsive and theres no hesisitation or missing while you wind her up- the 750 was just too big- someone else told me in order to flow750 cfm air thru a 383 you would have to be doing 9000rpm!--- thanks for your replys -carl <img src=" http://www.geocities.com/carlclub2/V...g-revised.jpg" border=0>

A Carter M6900 is about all the pump you should ever need.
Why do you think a 750 CFM carb is too big? It's probably the smallest carb I'd consider putting on a 383.
