msd blaster 2 coil mounting/ blow out msd box
just thought i'd post this so no one else has to go thru this- when i bought my 73 there was a msd blaster 2 coil already installed on the rear of the intake manifold- angle mounted- i installed the msd distributer - 6a box wires ect- 2 yrs later coil burned out( there oil filled ) and blew out the 6a box- i believe the reason this happened is the blaster 2 has to be mounted vertically- so this time i went with the dry type msd coil to keep it mounted on the rear of the intake--------- a air buble will float in the coil if mounted on the angle and burn out the windings---------carl

yes we had a post about 3 months ago about that,i had the same problem with mine i mounted it horizontal and it uncovers the windings and over heats the coil.i talked to msd and they said the same thing only can be mounted vertical.

Thanks for the heads up guys
I have the exact same setup and I would have never thought it would be a problem to mount it on the intake on an angle

Interesting... I mounted mine vertically because I didn't know if there would be problems. Guess I did something right for once.

To be honest I didn't notice any real difference, the main increase came from installing the Petronix II in my tach - no more crapping out after 4400 rpm now good up to 7000 rpm. I am using the 6400 rev limiter pill in the 6AL. It may start a bit easier but I am not really even sure about that.
