chambered exhaust capabilities
I've heard here that the MAD setup narrows to around 2" at some points and is overall very restrictive. I want to put exhaust and headers on my L48 now because I can use them when I get a new small block, but I'm looking to get around 400 hp, is that asking too much for the chambered setup to handle, are there any non chambered 2 1/2" setups for c3's. It has been difficult asking any shop to put a setup on my 76 around here.

Your best bet is going to be to take your 'Vette to an exhaust shop and have them custom bend you a 2.5" exhaust setup. I have heard from a few people that the chambered exhaust setup is rather restrictive (I've heard it sounds good though).

There is no reason to put on a restrictive ex. if you want HP.
It's easy to do a regular dual ex. setup.
See Why Exhaust is problem for HP on 75-81
what many refer to as my Exhaust topic. http://www.corvettefaq.com/c3/ganeyexhaust.htm
I got rid of restrictive ex. a long time ago when the engine blew the straight through glasspacks off & took off like a nitrous button had been hit !

Does anyone really know how restrictive this system is? I have a 2-1/2" system that was for a big block on my small block '74. Car runs great, but I wonder if I'm leaving some HP on the table, especially with my new heads, intake, and 1.6 roller rockers.

I cant tell you if it is restrictive or not. I can tell you it sounds great. I get complements every time I take it out. (Except from the neighbors  ...go figure)

After riding in Jeff's car again yesterday, I'd really like to have chambered exhaust. But, after spending 300.00$ on my current exhast system and how sweet it sounds too, I don't think I'll be spending 400.00$ on chambered.

Yeah, one of my cooler neighbors came out this evening and said "nobody can take a nap with you driving that thing". I said sorry, was his baby sleeping (I always drive very slowly with low RPMs in my neighborhood). He said, no he was napping but heard me up and down the street and wanted to come see what I was up to.
With the new heads, intake, and rockers this thing screams. My buddy Tom wanted to hear so I blew past his Honda in first gear pretty much up to redline. I slowed down rolled down the window...he said it hurt his ears. This thing rocks.
And with a G-Tech measured 4.8 second 0-60 I doubt I'm leaving much HP on the table.

I had chambered exhaust. It sounds soo sweet, especially at WOT!
But I now have Hooker sidepipes and not sure on the sound yet as I have to get them jet coated and then put in the inserts. but i drove it with no inserts and could feel the difference in power, mostly high RPMs.
