Shortening Body Lift Straps
Even with 9 1/2 feet of clearance, It looks like the straps will need to be shortened some. Looks like I would need 11 feet to use the straps without shortening. Have any of you shortened the lift straps with success? Do you think that tying a knot or two in each strap could make it about right. I bought the strap kit from ZIP and when I got it out of the box, The straps seemed way too long. Not many of us have a 12 foot garage or a crane to lift the body with. Suggestions anyone?

I too ordered the exact same lift harness from Zip, and I shortened it up by tying knots at the hook ends. It was way too long as delievered, and I only have a 9' ceiling. Check out how much I shortened it in this pic:

Bruce,
Thanks for the pictures. I was worried that shortening the straps might exert excess force on the doors and windshield frame but I can see now, that will not be a problem. Thanks

where did you hook the straps? it looks like from your picture that they are hooked at the from and rear of the doors. don't you have to support the front section as well?

The hooks are at the front and back of the rocker channel below the doors. In that picture, there is nothing under the hood, in fact no hood or headlights or anytrhing for that matter, so the front of the car is not too heavy, but I would support the front end if I were to do it again. Just to be safe, although, it didn't create any problems for me, or cause any damage either.

Another question (try to only post it once :banghead: :banghead: )
what is the hight of you lifting frame? I've sketched one up to build thats 10' to the underside of a piece of 4"x4"x1/4 wall tube.
Will that be high enough?
