Loose throttle shaft in quadrajet advice?
I was going to pull my Q-jet to rebuild and upgrade but I was noticing that there's a lot of slop where the bushings go through the body of the carb. It doesn't seem to leak at idle (checked by spraying stuff around the linkage) but I don't know what's happening at greater throttle openings. Part of me wants to change it for a Holley or Edelbrock, but I like the spread-bore idea. Does anyone sell replacement bushings or is this all custom work?
thanks

Any good carb shop can rebush that baseplate. It is the most common prob that the quadrajet has.

Frank
If it is the primary and not leaking no worry.
The rear does not effect the carb because it is pulling as much air as the engine will take anyway.
(Anyway thats the way Lars explained it. I think)

I see you are in CA. Look up the Carb Shop in LA run by Brad Urban. They sell a complete kit for rebushing the Q-Jet. Not too hard. Good luck.

Frank, with all due respects this is not correct information.

A correctly calibrated Q-jet is the best carb for performance, drivability and even milage. The carb Shop in Costa mesa will sell you the bushing kit, or do the job. You can just have them do the throttle plate vs. the whole carb.

thanks guys - I think I'll pull it and rebuild it. I've had good luck with q-jets in the past and like the carb, so I guess it's worth the effort.
