What sould I do with my TH-400?
Now that my 200R4 trans is coming:
I hadn't given it any thought but someone made me an offer, (that I thought was a joke), but now I am wondering about what it would be worth. My first thought was to stick in the back of the garage for the next owner but I don't plan on selling the car anytime soon.

Are you sure it's a TH400 and not a TH350?
Personally I would sell it. I "was" keeping all of my parts that I took off, but they began cluttering up my garage so I'm just selling them as I take them off. At worst you could keep it and have a spare transmission.

I got one too. A th400 left over from my swap to a 2004R. Its in great shape with a stock convertor and a shift kit. It works flawlessly. Ide like to sell it.

I have no idea what I should expect to get. I don't plan on getting rich but at the same time I am not going to give it away for the $100 the guy offered me.

Ill sell mine that has 70k on it. I bought the car with just under 70k miles on it and it was totally stock when i got it. And since its a L48 rated at 195hp in stock form, this trans never had a rough life. It has a B&M shift kit and a new kickdown solonoid. Ive had the pan off several times during the time I was using it and never saw any indication that it was worn. iE minimal dark deposits which is clutch material, and it normal to find that anyway, and absoulty no metal filings. It always operated flawlessly The stock convertor, steel inspection cover, and yoke are included. You could freshen it up if you like but its ready to go as is. I would just put it in and go. $200 and its sold.

If its original, keep it. If not, sell it. You can always buy new aftermarket parts, but once the original is gone, you can never get it back.
Well, unless of course the person you sold it to is willing to sell it back.

Its definatly the original. I dont ever plan on using it in my vette again. Not really interested in having it collect dust for years and years and years, which is how long I plan to keep the vette. If I break my current 200, ill just re-do it or put another 200 in. So many other mechanical things have been changed in the car as well. Originality at this stage is a mute point.

redwingvette, thanks for starting this post. i might have sold my 400 thru it. I didnt mean to steal yur sale though. Oldgaurd is maybe 1hr and 1/2 drive from me at most. Location made the sale more than anything. i wonder how much it would cost to ship a 400 from Mi to Va. Prolly not worth it for a used tranny. Its a heavy bugger.

400 I would keep. They are very beefy trannies stock, and are getting harder and harder to find, and before too long, they will be like the 400 block. If you are never going to be building/hotrodding any more cars, I guess you would have no need for it, though. I know I am even storing my TH350 because someday I am probably going to throw it into something for the weekend.

Jvette73, Always looking to help out another 73er. I am not worried about selling mine, as I said, he just got me wondering what it would sell for. I checked out Ebay and found two that were listed as reman's; one was looking for a starting bid at $350 and the other $750. Niether had received a bid. I will probly crate it up and stick under the back bench in my garage until I come up with a good reason to do something with it.
