Default Danger Dave Does Dopey Disaster (I bet there's no-one here who ...)

I bet there's no-one here who ... dripped bonding adhesive on their eye!!

Maybe you read my post that the highway was closed this morning. Well, I
decided to take a little time for myself and attach the firewall to the floor.
I mixed up the first small batch of bonding adhesive, and applied it to the
seam area at the front of the trans tunnel. I had used up all the material,
applying it from the inside, and then I walked around front to clean up the
bond area where the adhesive was oozing out.

I started to scrape and smooth a few areas that were really dripping, and then
I made my worst mistake. I needed to see better, and bent my head down
under the floor level to see the back side of the seam. At that instant, a blob
of adhesive fell - right onto my eyelid !! I knew what had happened right away,
and I knew I needed to take care of my eye before finishing up my tidy work.

At first I tried wiping with my gloves, but the adhesive had just begun to set.
Some came off but more smeared. So, I grabbed the can of thinner and a
paper towel. I ran up to a mirror and saw that it was all over my eyelid and
lashes. It was starting to sting the corner of my eye. Well, thinner removed it
all (eventually). Take my word for it - the thinner stings more than the
polyester.

So - lesson learned: next time I apply chemical adhesives and crawl under to
look - I'm wearing some full-wrap safety glasses.
I looked like this guy for a while: ;)
ps - I want a "DANGER" emoticon.

Dripped bonding adhesive in your eye and fixed it by putting paint thinner in your eye.... thats kinda funny.

I dont know whats worse, being stupid enough to do this, or being stupid enough to tell everyone you did it. I'm just joking. ;) :jester

I hope your eye doesn't bother you after this, you might want to call your family docter. Some of those chemicals are pretty rough.

Sounds like me rubbing the old bald noggin on my freshly POR 15 painted frame and not knowing it until my kids started laughing at me. :troll That stuff just about has to wear off. BTW what is the brand of bonding adhesive you are using.

"Dripped bonding adhesive in your eye and fixed it by putting paint thinner in your eye."

OSHA would have a field day at your place.

Take care of your eyes! I'm glad to see there was no permanent damage. When I lived in Korea, I ended up getting both of my eyes scratched from an abrasive material. I had patches on my eyes for a week and did not know if I would be able to see when the patches were removed. Sure am glad they still work :yesnod:

Take care of yourself Dave so we can continue to learn from your Vette project. You have shown us parts that we never thought we would see - just make sure that you continue being able to see those things as well.

Glad to know everything is OK.

Glad you're OK, but all I could think about while reading your story was The Three Stooges. You can now be the Corvette Forum poster child for safety glasses!

I did pour new motor oil in my face while crawling under my truck with a full oil filter last weekend. :mad  I avoided the thinner treatment though. This is certainly one of the hazzards we face crawling around on the ground. A lift would be cool : :)

Sorry that you wasted bonding adhesive, but it sounds like it wasn't much.

Ah - so many people to respond to. I wish I could read your names. :D

I am OK - no damage (physically).

Avette4me : Don't worry your time will come. I get the feeling that your are a DIY guy - like me.

77dream : Don't worry, the stuff was only on the outside of my eye. I think
it initally stung from the fumes.

DVG73 : LMAO on your new hair replacement technique. Didn't RONCO patent that ?
ps - did you see my post that showed my finger covered in POR15, after my glove got a hole ?
Check my website for it - go to Corvette stuff - 70 pictures

For most others : Yeah I'm OK - and I will continue to work and post - in the face of adversity.

Adam : I'll go halves on a lift, if we keep it at my house. :lolg:

Midshark : My youngest son is already the poster child. Here he is helping with
the exhaust on his mom's Blazer.

My next post will feature my left ear. You'll never guess what happened.

Dear Dave,
I'm glad that you're OK!. However, there are other ways to prove that you are one-eyed about Corvettes, safer too!. BTW, please tell me where Brookline is. It's not in the index of my Rand McNally. Maybe you don't really exist?

Regards from Down Under   :jester
