How deep of an oil pan can be used?
I am building a 406, and looking at a few different oil pans, but I don't know how deep of a sump can be used before ground clearance is a serious issue.
The milodon pan is 8.25" deep with windage tray and baffle
or
The Moroso 7qt pan is 9.5" deep withotu windage tray (would use bolt on type)
Thanks!

I am using a Moroso 7 quart pan. Same depth as a factory one so same ground clearance. But it is wide at the bottom and holds 7-quarts. Total system capacity is 8 with filter and I have the oil pump with it too that's designed for that application.
8 quarts is enough for any small block motor!

I have an 8 qt (one qt for the filter). It's a moroso. It clears everything just fine. 8 quarts is plenty...even for a BB. :yesnod:

The Moroso pan I recently put on was 8.25" deep. It doesn't hang down past the headers. 9.5" is going to be a problem for you though. Or as I like to say "It will be a problem for the wife because she will forget that it's there".

Thanks, you probably got the same pump I'm looking at (191). Good to know it will clear.

Thanks, I will check that part number and get back to you!

Well, gravis... As helpful as your comment is not it is not very possible without the motor in the car, AND with the old motor belonging to someone else as it has been sold. But i'm sure you already knew that. :conehead
