Default I'm Screwed

OK yesterday I was leaving school and the parking lot was all backed up. I was trying to switch lanes and this piece of crap behind me honked at me when I was switching lanes. So I looked back and I thought I had the brake all the way depressed but I didnt and bumped into the Tahoe infront of me. So the guy got my name and phone number and called me. The next day he took it to get an estimate and it is going to cost 500 dollars. He says he needs a new bumper, bumper cover, and bracket. I was going 3 miles an hour tops and it didnt do anything to my car. I cant tell my parents cause I will get screwed over even more cause I got a ticket last week (60 in a 45). What do you think I should do. You think I should go check it out and see if it looks damaged and stuff? Please help or I will be screwed forever.

Go look. Come back and tell us what you see.

I get a feeling he's trying to screw you! You have to hit a Tahoe pretty hard to do all the damage being suggested. Plus your front bumper isn't even high enough to hit a Tahoe's bumper for crying out loud...

Your only screwed if you DON"T tell your parents. There bound to find out anyway. Maybe they can help and not let you get screwed by Tahoe owner. You may not like the outcome from the Parents but at least it won't cost you $500. Lesson in Life.....ain't they grand? :flag

I see from your profile that you are 16 years old. The other driver is taking advantage of your youth + inexperience in these matters. Tell your parents now.

I have a tahoe. And i can do one better. I rear ended my own tahoe in my vette going about the same speed and did ZERO damage. This guy is tring to take you to the cleaners.

Tell your parents. If my son (licky he is only 3) did not tell me and I found out later, watch out. Either way, the money should come out of your pocket for $500 and avoid insurance regardless of past issues.

My Dodge Ram 4 x 4 was hit on the front bummer by a car that rolled into it. The dent would cost about $550 if done by Dodge. The bumper alone was over $350 and add labor, etc, the quote is fair and he is entitled to the repair.

It has to be it says Quadrajet and then when you look at it, it looks just like a 2 barell. And I am going to tell my 'rents when they get home today. Thanks for the info and I will go with my 'rents to check out his "damage" tomorrow. Thanks for the support. :grouphug:

Nice looking car BTW. My son just started driving about 3 weeks ago, I sure hope he comes to me and tells me first. I know it is gonna be a hard thing to do, but you have to let them know. I was 16 and hit a car setting on the side of the road. Just grazed it, I had the choice of doing many things. I stopped and took my licks. Then paid to have the car fixed. I should have been paying more attention to the road and less to the little girlie setting beside me. Oh well, lesson learned.

I say pay the $500 so he does not report it to insurance. If it is reported, your insurance increase will cost way more than the $500.

Oh, and tell your parents now.

You should not get a ticket, but if he sues you, you will lose. If he hands the judge an estimate for repair more than $500, you may be out more money, plus court costs.

I do not see how you could sue him, only that you could argue that $500 is too much. Not going to be in your favor either way.

Civil judgements are also public record and accessible by anyone. Not something you want either.

Sorry guys, I don't agree with "just pay him the $500" Make him PROVE that it is that much damage. Those of you that say just pay him must have money to burn. I'm sure a 16 year old doesn't. Just because he is a minor does not make "screwing" him right. I've worked on vehicles and I don't believe for an instant that at 3 mph from a fiberglass car can cause enough damage to replace bumper, cover and supports. AGAIN, tell your parents, take your lumps and let them handle it. :flag

You would think that a fiberglass 21+ year old car would have some kind of damage done to it. Even if it did get hit by the plastic bumper some kind of evidence should be showing on the vette if it hit the Tahoe hard enough to do damage to it. After all the rear bumper on it is metal, correct?

I had an accident in my dad's Studebaker Avanti. I met a barbed wire fence one morning on my way to class. The impact shook me up a bit but the car (even being fiberglass) did its job and absorbed the energy. I couldn't hide it, it was (is) my dad's car. I got the car towed back home and even though my dad was at work, I called him with the news. No he wasn't happy it happened and the damage really isn't all too bad, but he WAS happy I told him right away.
Now the car is in Maine with him and still needs to be rebuilt. No it's not for sale, yes it will see the roads again, but in better shape than when it left. The motor wasn't as powerful as in its days of youth when I got to drive it, so this wreck was kindof a blessing in disguise.

i (don't ask me how :D ) somehow got my datsun stuck on some railroad tracks. my dad came to pull me out, with his 1997 Tahoe LT, and he hooked it up and pulled me out. but, while i was in the datsun, i did the most stupid thing, and i still can't figure out why i did it....when my datsun started coming free, i had it in reverse and hit the gas hard!! my dad had it in 4WD low, so he couldn't back up in time, and i slammed my back bumper into the front of my dad's tahoe at about 15 MPH. :( i thought i was dead right there....but i got out and looked, and the only thing that happened was i cracked the little $25 plastic piece behind the license plate, and i bend the license plate a bit. boy, was he PISSED, but at least i still have my life today :flag

what i'm trying to say is: TAHOES ARE TOUGH, i doubt you did any damage.
