82 Collectors Edition Graphics cracking..pls adv.
The hood decal on my CE is cracked in many places. It is unsightful. How do you think I should remove it. The paint should be fine, its in really good shape. Heat, chemicals....ect any advice?

My friend has had the same situation on his CE for many years. In fact, he had the car painted with the decal masked off because he couldn't replace it!
There is no method to remove a 20-year-old decal that will preserve the paint underneath. You are suffering from the Curse of the CE Decals (sorry) :(

Hey TJ, got any good Corvette body shops locally??
They may have an idea or 2...
I just bought the stripe and decal set and am preparing to install it real soon.

I would use heat to soften the decal glue, you should then be able to scrape them off with a plastic spreader thingy used for spreading bondo.
Get the decals off, then get the glue off with some glue remover.
This is the best advice I can give, If you figure out a better way. Please let me know.
Good Luck

Go to the automotive paint store they sell a round rubber wheel that goes in the end of any drill it is about 5 inches in diamater and about 1/2 an inch thick. Belive it or not you run it over the decal it will take off the decal and glue without hurting any paint. You need to be carefull not to drink a 6 pack and do this watch what you are doing. They will know what you are looking for in teh paint store. :smash:

 Everyone- I will keep you posted. I think I will have the hood painted with the stripe painted, the rest of the decals are fine.

I've got the same problem. My car is definitely due for a paint job and I think I'm just going to have them paint the big decals on the front and sides. I'll have the small stripe decals made (I'm leaving some off). This bodyshop is awsome, so they should do a pretty good job.

<Mine are painted on, Here is a pic the day after they were sprayed.
A couple of notes for you guys considering getting them sprayed.
Make sure they get the correct paint codes. they should be able to get them off of a decal sample,(there should be 3 separate colors) and mixed to the correct shade. I think someone here had the correct codes ( maybe the guy living in the NE with the High Resolution CE pictures for sale) name ?????
Be sure to be there when they spray them, if you look at mine, the fade is a little to far forward. and not spread out enough. I was over 100 miles away when they sprayed mine. (The second try came out better.)
If you want them to look more like a decal, have the painter leave the ridge under the clear coat. If your not worried about them looking authentic, the painter can make the ridge disappear.
Good luck guys. AND Don't forget to show us the pics...
