Which mechanical pump to get!? Help.
First off I need a pump that will support 500+HP through the stock fuel line.
[I know the limitations of the stock lines, but budget is not permitting right now, I plan on re-plumbing the entire setup later this summer]
There are two pumps I'm looking at:
Holley VolumMAX 130gph Mechanical Pump
Carter Race 172gph Mechanical Pump
My question is which would be better for my application? It will be feeding a Speed Demon 750, Victor Jr Intake, 406, AFR195's, up to 6500rpm.
I currently have a Holley Black electric pump, but to avoid noise and having to re plumb everything I was going to exchange it for a mech. pump and towards a MSD Pro-Billet Distributor.
Any input is gladly welcome, I'm going in to get the pump tomorrow, so promptness is appreciated!

Thanks! Oops! Didn't catch that one, this post was done in haste, my apologies, its changed :D :smash:
Do you have the VoluMAX pump? I was looking at the Edelbrock pump as well, but that large base would be a bit close to my crossmember.
Clink69
No issues clearance wise with the pump?
Also, did you reuse the stock 3/8 line from the tank and just flare that for an AN fitting to the pump?
Thanks!

I bought the Edelbrock high volume mechanical pump. It does a good job supplying the fuel, but it pukes oil all over the side of the engine, READ HEADERS!, through the teeny tiny vent holes on the fuel pump neck.
I was told that the fix is another $50 on a special rubber bladder of some kind that can be inserted into the neck cavity. What a piece of crap to have to do! A few high rpm full throttle runs and I am leaving a smoke screen equal to some derelict car with blown rings!
I may have to drill out a vent hole in the lid of the pump, connect tubing to a catch can, and then vent to the rear carb plug. And no, I'm not mad :mad
yeh, right

Thanks, my primary concern is the ability to supply enough fuel to support 550 or more HP. For this reason I think I am goign to get the Holley VoluMAX 170ghp race pump.

I think the VoluMAX 170gph will be best suited to my application, at least until I get my Nitrous kit and re-plumb the whole system, at that time I'll sell the Holley at a deep discount to another forum member :)
Chuck Harmon
Thank you for the heads up on that, will save me the hassle!
Like I said above, I think I am going to go with the VoluMAX 170gph pump,
should fit the bill and suck the tank dry for sure.
Lets just hope this conflict ends quickly, and some stability leads to decent oil prices this summer. :smash:  [Not nearly as important as the safety of our soldiers :flag ]
