Hi Bob did you change your distibuter or did you put a conversion kit into the original distributer. Dave

A 1975 tach will fit, it is an HEI tach, good luck finding one. The only other alternative is to have your old tach drive distributor converted to HEI. Dave's Small Body HEIs will do the job for about $175.00

Or you can convert it yourself by putting in a Mallory or Crane ignition module.

If you just converted your distribitor to electronic, the tach will still work.

But, if you changed the distribitor then it was 75 that changed to electronic tachs. I think the 75-76 tachs will fit.

Hope this helps.

HI Dave, We had the work done. He put in a new electronic distributor and changed the ends of our 8mm wires so they would work. Thanks, Bob

You are pretty much out of luck in making our 72 mechanical tack work with the electronic distributor you had installed. Did your installer tell you the electronic distributor change out would not support a mechanical tach? About the easiest thing to do is buy a tach and mount it on the steering column. Another option is buying the electronic tach from a 75 or later Corvette with the same style tach and switch it out with your mechanical tach. Electronic ignition distributors with mechanical tach drives are also available.

Find a lot of used 75 tachs at the larger swap meets.

without taking the distributor out, how can you tell what kind is it (please don't tell me i need to take it out!!!) the GF has a 74 and the speedo needle is not only gone, but it starts at 100MPH as the zero point! and the tach also does not work! what color are the wires for the tach, and where is their exit point from the passenger compartment????

I bought a used 1975 tach from a forum member. $100 well spent I think.

Electronic tach from either 75, 76 or 77 vette will fit & work & look almost like original ... hardly anyone could tell ... only those three years. I got a good one off eBay for $50 ... but ya never know about eBay.

74 came with mechanical tach ... driven by cable (like speedo) from a gear on distributor. Mechanical tach has only a wire to illuminate it. HEI distributor began in 75 along with electronic tach. 75,76,77 electronic tachs will fit dash of 68 thru 74 ... helpful when 68-74 is converted to HEI or other distributor lacking a cable drive for a mech tach..
