My Steering Wheel has been Peltonized...
And Chuck sure did a fine job! I abandoned my original steering wheel about three years ago as the leather was discoloured and cracked. Purchased one of the repro wheels from a major vendor. It looks OK but the colour is a bit off and it needed a few adjustment spacers for proper fitment. It is Made in France and of high quality but it is...just quite not right. I had heard of Chuck Pelton's work for a number of years and how pleased people were with it. So I contacted Chuck and he agreed to refurbish the original. And I am very happy with the outcome!!

This is somewhat off the topic, but will a 79 steering wheel fit a 69? The larger wheel in my 69 makes it rather tight sliding over the higher bolsters on my new 79 seats when entering the car. Also, I simply liked the 79 wheel more than the 69's. Same for the seats which is why I have already changed them.

It is my understanding that the tele steering column was common from 1969 to 1982. If you do not have tele an adaptor is available. Here is a diagram courtesy of ZIP.

I have a non-tilt/telescoping wheel and a "late" model wheel bolted right on! I love the extra room. Without power steering, the turn efforts increased.

It does seem a wee bit expensive. But the quality is there. And try to buy a "new" original C3 steering wheel!! As I have noted, the Made in France repros (at $139.95) are very close and of high quality but on close examination they do not fit quite right and the colour is off. But that may not be terribly important for many folks. I had pics of the difference but cannot locate them. I will look again.
*Edit*-I will try to explain the fitment problem this way. What you see in this pic is the back of my unrestored GM wheel. You will note an indent on one of the spokes (circled). The repro wheel is absolutely flat on the back. So the fit requires the use of spacers or washers to get matters sitting flush when the fastening screws are installed on that spoke. Otherwise you have a loose wheel or a horn without discipline ;) . So there are compromises. BTW, the GM shims even for the normal wheel are discontinued.
These are hard to find.

Thanks fellows! Looks like EBay for this wheel... ;)
It could have been Chuck Pelton, if not who?
Have a good stock one that I could sell.
